My tinnitus started after covid and it was quite loud for months, I used to need background noise to get to sleep. It has got quieter over the last couple of years or I have got used to it, I'm not sure but it doesn't bother me anymore. The specialist I was referred to said once the hairs in the ear are damaged they do not repair or grow back so it's then permanent. The hairs in my nasal passage were also damaged, which is why we loose our smell and taste with covid, but they do grow back after about 3 weeks.
Unless the cause of the tinnitus is hormonal I wouldn't have thought HRT would help.
I was referred to the Tinnitus Society website at the time but there was no mention of any cure just ways to manage the condition. It did state though that not all cases are permanent so I suppose it depends what has caused it in the first place.
