Hi Everyone
« on: February 07, 2023, 11:58:11 AM »

My name is Laura and I'm 45 years old. I've never joined a forum before but since finding you, I've felt a wave of relief. People who would actually understand....I hope  :).
After months of symptoms including forgetfulness, skin dryness, itching -especially in the pelvic area - and uncontrollable anxiety, I was diagnosed as being perimenopausal and prescribed Novofem.
The red tablets were ok but my anxiety was still there and I struggled leaving the house. Since starting on the white tablets, my moods have been horrendously dark, feels of dread and hopelessness, unable to talk to anyone or eat. I was wondering if anyone else had experienced something similar? I havent taken today's dose as I am too scared of how I will feel. Xxx

Hi and welcome to the forum.
I'm not on HRT but can relate with the anxiety and dark thoughts, these were my worst symptoms. There not nearly as bad now and I somehow struggled through it all,so there is light at the end of the tunnel.
I know sometimes you need a bit of trial and error finding the right HRT to suit,so if you're finding the one you are on to unbearable,do go back to your Dr,hopefully you have one at your surgery that is meno savvy,do ask when you ring x

Thank you Jaypo, I am going to call the GP in the morning and hopefully get an appointment.
One thing that I am uncertain about....when you are perimenopausal,  could you be lacking in one particular hormone which needs topping up. The reason I ask is that the red tablets in Novofem are oestrogen and the white are progestagen. I have read that the depression I have experienced can be related to an overdose of progestagen?

Hello Laura and welcome to the forum. I am glad you have found us.  :) It is possible the progesterone in Novofem does not suit you. I looked it up and it is
norethisterone which I know some people are unable to tolerate. I am glad you are going to get an appointment to discuss HRT with your GP. There are other forms of HRT such as patches and gel which seem to be more commonly used then the tablets.

Your anxiety and low mood could be related to the progesterone. Do not worry though as there are other options you can try.

Welcome.  Some find that keeping a mood/food/symptom diary of use to chart progress.  If U feel unsupported by the GP Practice then mayB ask for a referral to an NHS dedicated menopause clinic - not a gynaecologist as they often don't know much more than some GPs do.

Let us know how you get on.  The important thing is 'me' time, eating well with exercise on a regular basis [note to self  ::)]
