Meander: 5 years ago we were buying flat irons from antique fairs for a fiver each,
Rotary Club were sending packs of irons to parts of Africa that didn't have regular supplies of electricity. Sewing kits with needles etc., to get girls off the streets into a trade. Many schools in Africa won't take girls into education unless they could sew their own uniforms.
Cycles for mid-wives went sent out so that they could travel to outlying tribes, they were taught how to maintain them and carried a spare tyre over their shoulders.
Sewing machines were too difficult to maintain as parts were difficult to service.
