How long to feel improvements?
« on: August 12, 2022, 06:15:54 PM »

I started HRT 2 weeks ago, and I'm a bit disappointed that I don't feel even slightly better yet, my symptoms haven't improved even a teeny bit. I just wondered how long everyone found it took them to start to notice improvements in their symptoms?
I am on Estradot 37.5 micrograms patches, and Utrogestran. Colleagues at work on HRT are on the estradiol gel and seemed to start on 1 to 2 pumps a day, and they said within a few days they started to notice improvements.  I don't know if you can compare the patches with the gel, but I seem to be on a low dose.
My doctor has said to come back in 3 months, but I can't go on feeling like this until then.
The Estradot leaflet says results can take 3 months, but is that the norm? Am I expecting too much?
I'd love to hear what you are on and how long it took to feel any improvements, thanks everyone.

Hello and welcome to the forum. It took me a few months before I felt any signs of improvement. Even know I still have unwanted symptoms. For some of us, HRT will not stop all menopause symptoms. 2 weeks is early but if you feel worse I would talk to your DR as you may be feeling low due to the Ultrogestan. For some people it causes low mood.

Hi

I've been taking hrt for 4 months now and I'm only just starting to feel the effects. I also thought it would be an instant cure but how wrong I was! I'm glad I've stuck with it though, fingers crossed you feel some improvement soon xx

You probably need an increase. The most common starting dose is 50mcg unless there is a reason to ease in more gradually (often wise). Call and ask your doctor if you can get higher dose patches if things are not better in a few weeks.

The official advice is to give each level 12wks to settle before you know how it is working but that is a long time to keep feeling rubbish for...

I felt better within 2-3 days...

Thank you, yes think I will talk to my doctor about upping the dose, but looks like I will probably have to be patient.

What are your symptoms? Flushes usually go within a couple of weeks, my anxiety and insomnia took 3 months.
