I am constantly hot CKLD! Even when the weather is ‘normal’ I’m sweltering. Last time in Southern Europe sweat was pouring off my face. This current weather I’m just sat in front of a fan with all windows and curtains closed. I’m missing out on summer. Even in the winter I no longer wear a coat - just a fleece even on freezing days. I didn’t connect the two until I read the articles and then it made sense. Although on odd occasions I get really cold and can’t warm up. The heat sets off digestive problems too.

I've found this link Grumpymum of any use ?

jillyrich, I have a good friend who can't take estrogen (I'm not sure why). She uses venlafaxine for her hot flushes and found it really effective. I'm not sure if it helps with any other symptoms or if she even had any others.

As an aside:  Raynaud's disease (Ray-nodes) means that the small blood vessels in the extremities such as the hands, feet, fingers or toes are over-sensitive to even the slightest changes in temperature, cold conditions and sometimes emotional stress.

When our bodies are exposed to the cold, a normal response is for the blood vessels to become narrower. When someone has Raynaud's this reaction may be much more extreme. It will sometimes cause a noticeable colour change to the affected areas, with the skin turning white, then blue and finally to red as the circulation returns. This is known as a Raynaud's attack.

A friend has this and is usually never warm.  The recent heat wave worried her a bit as she didn't feel as cold as usual  ::)

Thanks to everyone who posted about their experiences with hot flushes and Anti Depressants.

I’ve been on 50mg of sertraline once a day for 4 weeks now and there is a slight improvement in my hot flushes, which I’m really happy about! My doc has recommended upping the dose to twice a day and seeing if that kicks them totally in to touch. Fingers crossed!

Someone asked about getting my thyroid checked (sorry can’t remember who it was) - I have an underactive thyroid and take thyroxine daily and am up to date with my checks on that.

The whole menopause thing is so difficult for so many woman, it astounds me that we’re all still standing!!

I had a consultation with my specialist last week and we talked about hot flushes which I had started getting since the weather got hotter.

She said that in the summer, when it’s hot we  often need less thyroxine, but then we can need more in the winter.

I was amazed at this as never heard this talked about before!

I think she’s right as last few days when it’s been cooler they’ve completely stopped!
