Cramping on utrogesten
« on: June 03, 2022, 09:40:49 AM »

Hi. I’m 12 years post meno  and taking oestrodose 2 pumps and utrogesten 100 mg .taking to help osteoporosis. Got bleeding and cramping for 2 weeks , so I dropped to 1 pump and trying utrogesten vaginally, gP won’t agree to this method and says it will get absorbed less even! But bleeding stopped. However now getting cramping Back again worse in a morning and low back pain. So hope bleeding won’t start again gP says  that I have to stop it all for 6 weeks if it does. They won’t scan unless you bleed after hrt is stopped for 6 weeks! New rules apparently or they’d be sending too many people with hrt bleeding. Anyone else get cramping using it this way? Wonder if. Too could ask for sequi? Surely this is the best way to stop lining thickening? I did have fibroid and endo. Thanks.

Hi
Sorry you are struggling with the bleeding and cramps.
How long have you been on this HRT?
Bleeding is usual within 6 months of starting a new regime.
Any bleeding after that, does need an investigation.

It isn’t fair of your GP to say that your  HRT must be stopped for 6 weeks before scanning. Reasons being

1. You are taking it for oestoperosis

2.Just stopping abruptly causes stress to the body

3. There are other types of progesterone which control bleeding better than utrogestan.

If you have been on this HRT for LONGER  than 6 months, ring your surgery on Monday and ask for either a referral to gynae OR request a switch of progesterone.

Otherwise, try hang on, it may settle.

🤞🤞🙂

Whoops,  Just read your other thread which I replied too.. apologies.

For 8 months you were  okay on HRT, now bleeding? This  bleeding warrants a scan to  check lining thickness and see what the fibroid is doing.

It could be the Oestrogen aggravating the fibroid and endo?

How do you feel on one pump? Is it sufficient?

I agree you should have a scan on the 2 week pathway. It could be caused by fibroids but it might be that the utro is insufficient to keep your lining thin and it's been building up. As I understand it when you take utro vaginally more of it gets where it's needed so it should be more effective not less. It isn't licensed for vaginal use in the the UK though so this may be why your gp can't recommend it.
