Experience of testosterone please!
« on: May 14, 2022, 09:05:45 AM »

Good morning everyone,

I had an online consultation two days ago with a menopause Doctor, she was very reasonable and charged £150.  I’ve got a few questions if anyone is able to help.

I’m already in the menopause after having a radical hysterectomy back in February and have been suffering terribly with severe joint pains and I’ve gained a stone since.  After watching the Davina menopause show and getting advice on here I felt it was likely I’d need testosterone, so managed to get an appointment quite quickly.

During the appointment we discussed the fact I have a history of endometriosis and because of this she advised I shouldn’t be on estrogen only hrt but the combined, so has prescribed patches.  She has also prescribed the testosterone and pessaries.

I’m on a lot of painkillers and really don’t want to stay on them for too long, so wondered if anyone could tell me if they found the testosterone beneficial for joint pain and if so how quickly.  Also where do you apply the gel? I’ve been prescribed the sachets, how do you know you’re taking 1/10?

I honestly feel like I’m in the body of a 100 year old but on the plus side my mh has improved, so if my body could catch up to my mh I think I’d be amazing!  I’ve been off work for some time and really need to get back to it as we need the money.  However, if I return and then go off sick again it’s worse than just staying off. I’m really REALLY hoping this combination is going to sort me out.

I’d love to hear about your experiences.  Thanks ladies! Xx

Hi Las20

Welcome to MM.  Sorry to hear about your awful experience but you are on the right track now, well done.

I’m not on patches so can’t really advise on the combination you have been given but yes hrt should help you enormously with aches and pains. Have you started them yet?

Can you let us know what patch you are on?

I put my testosterone on the top of my foot where the skin is thin, I was advised to do this by my specialist. I can’t advise on the sachets as mine comes in a pump. So do a search on here and you will find previous threads with information on the dosing.

Hi Marchlove,

Thanks for responding.  I’m currently on three pumps of the hrt gel daily as I’m waiting for the prescription for the patches from my Gp, the patches are Evorel Conti twice weekly. I’ve been on hrt for eleven weeks and the pains have got worse and worse but then again I’ve been changed from gel to spray and then back to gel, so maybe I need to settle into the patches and hopefully along with the testosterone it’ll work. It feels difficult to get it all right! Xx

That seems like a lot of estrogen for someone with a history of endometriosis but then again you’ve just had a hysterectomy.
There’re a couple of endometriosis threads going at the moment, So I’d advise you find them and post on there. You will get better response I think. X

Thanks I’ll take a look.  Perhaps the patches will be less? I’m confused by it all.

The evorel conti patches are equivalent to 2 pumps gel so your dose will be lower. T did nothing for my joint pain, that was cured by oestrogen. Presumably other causes such as arthritis have been ruled out? If it's getting worse you may need more oestrogen not less. I put T on the sole of my foot under the arch. I was told to put it on my thigh but long black hairs became noticeable so I switched. I have the pump too so can't advise on the dose.
