Newbie - Please help
« on: May 05, 2022, 04:32:23 PM »

 :'(
Hi to all the ladies here.
I have just joined the sote.
Been crying my eyes out after watching Davina’s programme.
When I turned 48 my periods just switched off no lead up nothing.  I started getting hot flushes at night late 49’s and then sleepless nights.  Put up with it for over a year.
Called my dr they put me on Clonidine which within a week I was so depressed and crying in my bedroom ayway from my partner.  Told my partner what was happened and he told ne to call the drs again.
They put me on HRT Femoston-conti 1mg/5mg, within 5months I felt as though I was goong mad, hearing things, accusing my partner of cheating on me, going from lovely to full rage in seconds, feeling terrible about myself, low in myself.
My partner got the tablets and threw them in the bin and said I shouldn’t take them.
I called the dr again, they tried to put me on another tablet pr antidepressants.  I told the dr I needed a professional to talk to before doing anything else.
I have an appointment on the 27th June private, and I have had reflexology once a week which is helping a little woth stress.

Please help, I feel as though I am ruining my wonderful 20 year relationship with the love of my life.

Hello Jools and welcome to the forum. I really am sorry to hear how you are feeling. Please do not panic. You will not feel like this forever. It sounds like you would really benefit from seeing a menopause clinic. They will be able to discuss HRT options with you. If the anxious and depressive feelings are hormonal then HRT could really help as well as the flushes and lack of sleep. It can take time to find the right HRT.

Thank you for replying Flossieteacake.
I hope seeing a menopause professional will help.  I feel as though my gp has really let me down

My heart goes out to you, I understand that rage far too well.
I echo what flossie said ...to see a specialist. I didn't realise mine was hormonal at all.....I'm not there yet , but hopefully with HRT it will bring me back and I really hope the same for you too hun. Xxxx

So sorry to hear this very familiar story. Totally know how you feel, I’m a similar age and had issues for 7 years before going on HRT privately and 8 months in feeling really good. It’s great you’re able to see someone privately, I am with the Newson clinic. It is completely wrong we have to go this route and that it’s all so difficult. 7 years ago I had no idea what it was or what actually to expect and my GP was hopeless. I’m so glad Davina and others are raising awareness for women. There is far too much unnecessary suffering. There are some threads here for helpful tips for husbands and ways to help them understand what’s happening. I think it’s really important. My relationship is now stronger because of this battle I’ve had, I’m also hypothyroid. Learn about this together, tell them what happens at your appointments and what you’re feeling. Keep a diary if you’re not already. You’re not ruining anything. You’re just going through a tough time with your body, go easy on yourself.

Thank you Unicorn and ATB just reaching out and knowing I’m not the only one feeling like they are going mad and having relationship issues due to this madness is helping.

I feel like a person outside of myself, I know the face in the mirror but don’t recognise the person inside or the person i’ve become.  I was so calm, loving, patient, not the case now.

Oh I know it’s awful. I completely understand that feeling. I was super fit and very busy and organised person and I completely changed when I got to perimenopause before HRT. I kept forgetting things, getting easily overwhelmed, irrational and frustrated plus sooooo tired. When my daughter said I want my happy energetic mummy back I was devastated. I wish I had known what it was then. Please don’t think this is all there is left to life. It will take some time but you can find yourself and the joy in life again.

 :welcomemm:  browse round. Make notes.

Some find that keeping a mood/food/symptom diary of use.  Also, do print off 'hints for husbands' and hand over to anyone within ear shot ;-).

Just wanted to say hi and send a virtual hug 🤗 It’s so easy to blame ourselves for this and to forget that hormones are so powerful - too much is just as bad as too little sometimes.

I’m so pleased you are going to see someone. I think some GPs are very set in their ways and a bit averse to learning new stuff ( my opinion others are available 😜) so we can find we get the wrong HRT that is at the top of their list and possibly the default.  I had to trial 2 patches whilst insisting ever time that I wanted oestrogel to try. Kept being refused ( no clue why and wasn’t in any state to argue ☹️) until a lovely locum doctor took pity on me 🤣 and let me have it. It was life changing for me no exaggeration. But it took a while to feel back to some kind of normal. Hang in there.

I really wish you all the best and welcome- it’s a great forum with a lovely bunch of ladies.xxx

Louise2010 thank you for your message.  I already feel a big weight has been lifted just by reading posts and the response I’ve had.

Thank you all so much xxx

My appointment is 27th June a little while yet but I will have my reflexology next week, so relaxing and seems to help x
