Day 1 HRT - massive fail

Hi all...so today after having my prescription in my bag since December (!) I bit the bullet & started Evorel 50 patches ... literally 6 hours later a massive migraine 😫 this was my main worry about taking HRT & panic attack followed & I've taken rhe patch off already ! I'm gutted ... I'm 2 years no period so def post menopause & my symptoms haven't been horrendous over last few months but since Covid 3 weeks ago hot sweats & mood swings have begun again - just turned 50 & wanted to do HRT for my bones & heart health & just to see if I felt any diffetent but can't afford to get migraines as I'm knocked out for 4 hours at least 😔 ...just wanted to rant - thanks for reading! 😭😭😆

Were your levels taken before you were prescribed? Normally, postmenopausal ladies are started on the lowest dose (25) and increased as levels and/or symptoms dictate? I wonder if you could have a break for a day or two and then try a half patch? As you've found the courage, it seems a pity not to honour it? Your call, of course!

I agree with postmeno3. 50 would have been quite a shock to your body. It took me several months to get used to 25. Please do not despair just yet. You may find 25 more tolerable.

You could also ask to be referred to an NHS specialist clinic if that might help you feel more confident in the process. Good luck!

Hi Tillymint. I’d you haven’t had a period for 2 years, a 50 patch is highly likely to be way too much estrogen. If I were you I’d cut the patch in half and start with that until you can follow up with your GP. Having a massive headache so quickly is a good sign that it’s too much estrogen for you x
