Opinion needed re appointment Monday
« on: March 24, 2022, 10:02:39 AM »

Hi everyone I will try and keep this super brief but thank you for reading. I have been suffering from perimenopause since my covid vaccine last April. The theory being I was practically there already and it just shoved me through the door! Since then I have suffered from extreme anxiety and palpitations during the 24hrs before my period and then on and off over the days of my ovulation.  I also have really horrendous acne, no sex drive, dryness, painful breasts the week before my period and exhaustion.

Prior to the jab I was getting night sweats, had no sex drive/dryness. The rest were all new. Theyve been completely debilitating especially the anxiety - and I end up wishing away a good 10 days of every month because they are so hateful I cant cope. I decided to make an appointment to go private and see a specialist because my doc was zero help. The thing is my appointment is Monday, but for the first time this month I didn't have my usual symptoms - and I appeared not to ovulate and I wondered if this was why - and now I am thinking is this normal or are my symptoms easing (just assuming the jab did give me a shove what if it is wearing off?!!!) I appreciate this is wishful thinking but my appointment is costing a lot and I don't want to go if things are improving.

Basically my question is does this happen during peri - that one month you barely have symptoms and the next you have loads? And could not ovulating have been the reason why? If it is usual for it to come and go then I will keep my appointment because every other month since April has been so awful and I really can't cope with any more.

What do you think? Thank you in advance xxx

I’d be interested in answers too. I definitely have good months and bad months. I haven’t been able to link it to cycle length and/or ovulation or not though. It just seems random!

Keep the appt.!  Make a list to take with you.  Make a note of the suggestions.

Hormones rise and fall.  They may plateua then start again.

Some find that keeping a mood/food/symptom diary of use.  Which symptom would you like to ease first?  Anxiety can be treated with appropriate anti-anxiety medication or a betablocka.  Some ladies require HRT as well.

So sorry you’ve been going through it recently. I agree with CLKD. Keep the appointment and describe to the doctor you see exactly what has been happening at its worst. During my peri menopause I would experience horrendous months and then a couple months respite which made me think all was fine.

Yes definitely keep the appt. Describe the worst symptoms to them (don’t mention you’ve been ok recently!!).

That was certainly my experience with peri menopause/early menopause. Low estrogen symptoms (vaginal dryness) followed by high estrogen symptoms (awfully painful breasts). I had a Mirena at the time so I didn’t notice skipped cycles etc. Definitely the roller coaster ride of estrogen.

Keep the appt and maybe ask for an FSH test.

Thank you everyone. That's really helped me, I am so new to all this and don't have anyone going through it so no one to ask. My Mum can barely remember hers. It is so helpful and reassuring to speak to people who do. Thanks for taking the time to respond to me x It is so appreciated x

Thanks to everyone who replied. The specialist said she felt I was suffering from PMDD and possibly very early peri,  but she attributed the majority of my symptoms to PMDD and said it is fairly common to develop it in later years before menopause. This also explains why the month I didn't ovulate I didnt struggle with (Although i never actually let on to her about this during the consultation.  Im posting here in case it helps anyone. thanks again
