Breast pain and weight gain on biodenticals
« on: February 04, 2022, 09:30:59 AM »

Hello Lovely ladies

I wanted to ask how you get on with Oestrogel and 100mg Urogestran taken vaginally. I started this HRT last September and have experienced half a stone weight gain as I am permanently hungry, my breasts have stabbing pains, are extremely heavy and look enormous ( not all bad lol). I haven't taken HRT for a few days due to the shortage of getting my Oestregel pump, and even the new  Lenzettogel is out of stock. I have noticed the breast swelling has subsided and I feel like I have lost a few pounds already. I am beginning to wonder if I can take any form of HRT, have tryed so many combinations from Patches, tablets.

It is a shame as on the positive side, my sex drive came back with a vengeance, my bladder works improved, hot flushes and sleep. I also continue to take Vaginux pessaries for Vaginal Atrophy, maybe this is all I need. Can anyone relate to this, I feel 5 months is enough time for HRT to get into your system. The breast pain is concerning as I read that if you have breast pain whilst on HRT it can increase your risk of breast cancer. Any comments, experiences would be helpful ladies. ;D

The symptoms you list are classic signs of high estrogen and I have also experienced all of them since starting HRT (as well as a significant improvement in sleep and night sweats, as you also mention). Curious if you've ever had a blood test since starting HRT to check what your estrogen level is?

Thank you for your feedback on my post, that is interesting as I was thinking it was the progesterone causing the symptoms.

I am post menopause now, I asked my GP if I could have a hormone test to check levels, her response was it would not make any difference now you are post menopause??

I was on 2 pumps a day then increased to 3 pumps, maybe 2 is sufficient.

Most GPs are clueless in my personal experience  :). If you are putting Estrogen into your body then you will still have a level of it circulating in your body and it may be that 3 pumps is too much. In general though I always find it best to do any changes in small amounts otherwise you can get symptoms which aren't actually because the level is too low, but just because you've tried to make too big a change. Could you try decreasing by half instead at first and see how you feel?

I would have thought that any breast pain etc due to increasing oestrogen should settle. Personally I would say that these ongoing symptoms could be due to the fact that you are taking progesterone daily. I take it vaginally on a long cycle and I always notice the differences in my breasts during this time, and the changes disappeared once the progesterone has gone from my system. It's good to check breasts by feel, regularly, for any changes irrespective of pain.

Thanks for your reply.  As I am post menopausal with a uterus I have to take urogestan daily which does seem like a lot to me. I changed to every other day as I take them vaginally. Its always the progesterone it seems.
