emotional symptoms of menopause/perimenopause
« on: February 26, 2022, 12:20:04 PM »

Just wondered if anyone has experienced more emotional symptoms than physical symptoms in their perimenopausal phase. I have a little anxiety intermittently but the main thing I’m experiencing is what I can only describe as a ‘numbing’ of my emotions. To clarify, I don’t feel low in mood but my emotions such as happiness, feeling good about something, or even concern about something are present but feel a 1/10 if 10/10 were normal sensation. I have occasional word finding and forgetfulness which I know can be a symptom of menopause. I hope I’m making some sort of sense! I can think of what else it could be. My GP has done blood tests the result of which which lean towards me being premenopausal, all other blood tests are normal. Looking for any similar experiences, mainly for reassurance and how to manage.

Hi

I’m exactly the same as you. I suffer from terribly anxiety, flat mood and tearfulness.
My doctors first line of attack was to increase my antidepressants but I told him I wasn’t depressed. It’s a different feeling.

HRT has helped but it’s a bit trial and error and occasionally it needs tweaking.

If you’re over 45 blood tests aren’t reliable as our hormones fluctuate so much.

Hope it helps x you’re not alone x

Oh yes, common symptoms of peri. Have a look at the Advice for Husbands pinned post for this and many more symptoms.
