Hello. I was wondering if anyone may be able to help? After a bit if a battle with the GP, they've agreed to me starting HRT. GP has referred me to have the Mirena coil fitted, because GP told it will help with management of my heavy periods and form the progesterone part if HRT, then oestrogen can be added. The only problem is my GP surgery don't fit it,
I've been referred to Gynaecology at my hospital for fitting of the Mirena, GP wouldn't refer me to sexual health/family planning service to fit it because I'm wanting it for HRT and not for contraception. I'm on the triage list for Gynaecology and if I've heard nothing from them by 15th April then I'm to to call them. Once past the triage stage I've been informed the wait is 4 to 6 months for an appointment for the Mirena to be fitted. I've had the heavy periods and perimenopause symptoms for over a year or more now and have had investigations regarding the heavy periods which all came back normal. I queried with GP a couple of times since then about HRT but they kept refusing me. I'm really struggling though and I'd really like to try to get things under control sooner rather than things dragging on. My GP said I could go on the combined pill until the Mirena can be fitted, but I feel it might mess my body about. I'm wondering if it would it be worth asking my GP for another form of HRT? Or maybe even use the progesterone only pill or just opting for the combined pill (GP said they'd prescribe Rigevidon) until I can have the Mirena fitted?
I'm 47 and stopped taking the combined pill 3 years ago in favour of seeing what my body did naturally as far as my cycle is concerned and its just been all over the place, irregular and the heavy periods then the onset of other symptoms especially mood swings. I just feel pretty miserable really, more so since finding out recently that I also have a pelvic organ prolapse (rectocele)
Any words of wisdom/shared experiences would be gratefully received :-)
