Ooooh really? Will I become a raving nimph??  ;D How you doing on your regime by the way Joziel? The doc agreed to let me take Utrogestan continuously as I keep having terrible crashes but she suggested a 3 day break so that hopefully the breakthrough bleeding will be kept to a minimum. I think I love Utogestan. Had just one last night and after a break and feel human again already!

Hi Ladies,

Has anyone on testosterone had problems with hair loss? I'm on my 3rd type of hrt, but all have caused hair loss.

Testosterone can also cause hair loss? I've asked my Dr about anything she could prescribe to help with libido, and she suggested a lubricating gel, not really understanding that our libido doesn't actually start that way!!  Worrying!!

It has a huge effect on relationships when you would suddenly rather watch a film, read a book or even wash the dishes, than drag your husband to the bedroom   ;)

I believe hair loss issues can often be caused by inadequate progesterone... Maybe for some reason this is more an effect when testosterone is added in. But testosterone at levels suitable for women shouldn't cause hair loss. Perhaps you are taking too high a dose?

I'm doing okay on continuous utrogestan. Yes, the 3 day break for a bleed thing is something I thought about too. I am toying with either going fully sequential (2 weeks off) or having the 3 day break. I would like my ovaries to produce more estrogen through my coming off for 2 weeks a month and not possibly getting suppressed with the continuous 200mg of progesterone daily, but I also don't want the endo to re-start. I guess I could try it and see.

My Dr wouldn't prescribe Testosterone, and wasn't at all helpful when I asked about anything to help with lack of libido.

I've been on Elleste, Angelique, and now I'm on Femoston. There are so many contradictions about hair loss, the causes, etc, and I read a thread some time ago, that women already suffering hair loss, didn't notice any more loss when given testosterone? Before menopause we make our own testosterone, 3 times as much as estrogen? I asked my Dr about possibly adding progesterone cream, but she said progesterone was known to cause hair loss?

I know the NHS is under a huge amount of pressure, but shouldn't women have hormone levels checked when on HRT, otherwise how can we know if one hormone is lacking and another too high? Isn't it all about balance?

Could the inbalance between estrogen, pregesterone and testosterone cause hair loss? Scientists still don't seem to have any answers.

I'm just glad so many more people are learning about menopause, and it's no longer taboo to discuss it. We still have a long way to go though. :-\

Ah I see now. You are taking progestins if you are taking Elleste, Angelique and Femoston. They are artificial/synthetic and they are known to cause hair loss. You can get a copy of Lara Briden's Hormone Repair Manual for more information on that. Hair loss is a known side effect of androgenic synthetic progestins. Perhaps your body can manage a certain amount of androgenic progestins but if you add in more androgens with testosterone, it's just too much and causes hair loss.

Progesterone promotes hair growth and healthy skin. It is body identical and what your own body produces when it ovulates. Progesterone cream isn't absorbed well enough to be effective, you will need utrogestan/body identical progesterone. The only thing that progestins and progesterone have in common, is that they both stop the uterine lining thickening. Besides that, they have very different effects on every other part of the body.

Yes, we make 3x more testosterone than estrogen before menopause.
