Can anyone help
« on: January 24, 2022, 07:37:21 PM »

Hi ladies, first time post  I've been really struggling for 5 months with a sore, burning, stinging lady garden...jeans, knickers irritate it, sitting down is quite unpleasant. I have this watery fluid leaking out of me at times but no other discharge. Does this sound like VA?

I'm 46 periods have been having irregular periods for well over 3 years. Been given betnovate, fucidin, thrish treatment with no luck. I literally had to BEG for estrogen cream after my 6th Drs appointment.

I feel like my whole life now revolves around my vagina. I feel so alone and so down. Been on Estriol for about 3 weeks which seems to have settled the burning a little.

Any help and advice would be much appreciated xxx

Your GP is very slow  :bang:

As oestrogen levels drop the body may become dry: inside and out.  There is appropriate treatment for vaginal atrophy: 'ovestin' or 'vagifem' : the idea being to insert every night for 2-3 weeks or until symptoms ease.  If one feels comfortable the product can be used a few times a week, depending upon need.  If you get the need2P then maybe take a pain relief to ease the nip when the spincter shuts off the urine flow.

We have several threads on 'bladder issues' and 'vaginal atrophy'.  There is a very good book: "Me and My Menopause Vagina" : written by a member.  Buy a copy from Amazon, read the pass to your GP ;-).  That's what I did ........

Ask away.  Hopefully your symptoms will ease if you keep using the Estriol.

Thank you for your advise.

At my last appointment GP more or less said 'it was all in my head' i was so upset because we know our own bodies!!

I stumbled across this site and have read so many other women with similar symptoms to me and the TV seems to be really helping with speaking about this taboo subject which dramatically changes your life!!

I will have a look for the book. Thank you xx

Change your GP!

See whether there is one with an interest in Women's Health in the Surgery.  I would put in a complaint to the Practice Manager too.

In your head? God help us all! I suppose it was a male GP? Good advice from CLKD, and there is also a private Vaginal Atrophy Facebook support group which is very helpful and supportive. It was started by the woman who wrote the book mentioned.
Good luck,

Thanks ladies :)

It was a female GP, i hope she never experiences anything like this!!

It rules your life  I've never even thought or looked at my Vag before, now I'm forever with the mirror, how's my vag feel, how's my vag look, you have to smile, its all consuming and pretty miserable xx

I hope she does, she'd have an incentive to educate herself. The only condition 50% of her patients will go through and she knows nothing about it  >:(

I spit bullets when I read posts like this, I can't believe there is so much ignorance by some doctors on the subject of Vaginal Atrophy!!
I also can't believe how lucky I was in having a GP who is also a gynaecologist who uses Vagifem herself on a daily basis.

Cara999, I hope you get the correct treatment soon for this horrible condition. Go back to your female ignorant doctor and tell her what you want for your Vaginal Atrophy, and while your at it, mention this forum to her, she might as well prepare herself for what she might one day experience herself, but I bear no grudges, I hope she doesn't get this awful chronic condition!
