Hi everyone I hope you have all recovered from the festive season! I am nearly 63 and suffered all of the classic menopause symptoms for years but this time had to give up and was prescribed HRT. I have been given Evorel 25 and Utrogestan 100 (taken every night) for around 6 weeks now but still feel 20 years older both physically and mentally. I understand that the doctors look to review things in 3 months and I guess what I am asking is  1. Am I expecting too much? 2. Will it take time and it's too early yet to feel a difference.

I am interested in hearing from ladies who did not start taking HRT till over 60 - there don't seem to be that many of us??

Hi! it will take time.  The body takes time to absorb any changes.  Some find that keeping a food/symptom/mood diary of use.

Does the regime suit you thus far?

Hi, now nearly 7 weeks in and so far no real change in any of my symptoms.......will give it another 2/3 weeks and then contact my GP for a review and I suspect an increase to Evorel 50 perhaps?
As I have read on many forums lots of changes potentially to get the right combination, guess I was just hoping I was going to get lucky first time!

Hopefully a few systemic users with expertise will be along soon. I've no expertise, but started HRT just under a year ago, aged 68. In that time, I've been put on patches, gel and now spray. Bloods were taken eventually and my levels were through the floor. This is all through an NHS specialist clinic. They tend to start you off very gently at this stage of life and absorption can be an issue as they seem to think is the case with me. (I'm only on oestrogen as hysterectomy). So, it's kind of early days for you and a very knowledgeable member explained to me that it takes all the cells three months to respond to the changes HRT creates and adapt (or not) accordingly. Hope this helps at least a little. Have you confidence in your gp? If not, it could be worth asking if there is a menopause-trained gp at the practice and if not, ask for a referral to a specialist clinic. I think it's wise to have careful monitoring by someone with enthusiastic, supportive knowledge! Good luck.

The journey can be a little more difficult when you've been without oestrogen for so long. They tend to want to start low and increase slowly so your body has time to adjust. I think you're right to suggest an increase if you've seen no improvement at your 3 month review. If you want to increase more slowly you have the option of cutting a piece off the 50 patch.
