MayB tell us more about which regime you are on and what bothers you the most?   Why did U begin using HRT?  Do U keep a mood/food/symptom diary to check progress?

Hi Weeloz,

i started HRT patches & after a few days I felt exactly the same as you - the migraines were the absolute worst i've ever had so stopped (before the doctor told me to). I've not touched HRT from the private menopause doctor since and had far better success using a progesterone cream only. I've mentioned this in previous posts but my migraines have stopped, sleep is much better and so is my mood. I hope you find a solution as i know i couldn't persevere 3 months trialling the patches no matter what people said about giving it time.

Which patch? Oestrogen only or combined? It's usually the progesterone that causes problems though it may be something in the carrier that disagrees with you. What to do depends how bad you feel, if you can't tolerate it take it off and ask for something else. If you can I'd give it a little longer so you can be sure it's the patch and you haven't caught a bug. All hrts have side effects for a few people though most are OK. Maybe have a look at the PI to see if these are known side effects for the one you're on.

What progesterone cream are you using?  I really can’t get on with Utrogestan

Hi Dotty, i've used Biovea progesterone cream and the one by Wellsprings - both equally as good. I bought Biovea last few times as they usually have an offer on (especially if buying the twin pack) and free delivery. Hope that helps!

HelloSam666

Your post is very interesting and I wonder if you are only using progesterone cream and not adding Oestrogen at all? If you are peri menopausal you may still be making your own oestrogen but if you are post menopause then perhaps for some ladies progesterone only would be an option?

I don't think that many MM members are using progesterone cream so any information would be very helpful.

Wishing you well.

Hi Kathleen,

to be honest i do not know where i am on my menopause journey, it's primarily because i'm still on the mini pill and not had periods for many years. I'm in my early 50s and i had some tests done with my GP who said i was menopausal (i originally went because of insomnia /migraines problems. I had other niggling issues but i thought i could deal with those things like anxiety, dryness, sweating head/chest at night etc. They weren't my priority but of course, still need sorting out.

It's been a lot of guesswork on my part but for now, it seems like the extra dose from the progesterone cream is sorting things out. I didn't put much hope in it but having the terrible HRT experience i was happy to give it a go. Of course, over time it may not work as well, i may have to add oestrogen cream too or look at different options. We'll see but it's doing the job for now. Sam
