Because most germs live in the back of the nose?  I am surprised at how much and how far I spit whilst talking  :o  :-X so if they work, masks can help.   I like the look of those see-through visor-things when people can see what is being said.  I have had little problems with the mask once I realised that I wouldn't choke  ::) and if the mask breaths in and out with me, it's working correctly.  If I feel the need, I drop it for a short while.  Makes my nose run  ::)

Laws that were enacted during the early days of C-19 are to be removed from the Statute books eventually.

Hello ladies.

I think the story about dropping most COVID restrictions is more about distracting us from the fuss surrounding the parties than about the progress of the virus. As someone who is okay with wearing a mask  etc I would be happy to continue with these measures for as long as is necessary.

Holidaylover - I assume that you have tried wearing the transparent face shields instead of a mask? I know someone who also hates mask wearing but is fine with the shield.

Take care ladies.

I agree that some of the measures dropping is for distraction but still we are close to having a more normal life (with big sigh of relief  :) )

Was it not  Professeur Jonathan Van Tam who said that if life does not feel weird in pandemic then you are in probability doing something wrong?  :)

I think he also advised us not to compare between our own county's experience of pandemic and other country's? Too many differences even in neighbouring countries to make comparisons even now.

I agree that antivaxx are a tiny number but they are noisy. They upset people who have hesitancy and deny the right of hesitant people to the good information to make their own decision.

Please if you are reading Aprilflower I hope that you are soon feeling well.  Be reassured your 3 vaccination give you good immunity from omicron. Anyone who is unfortunate to catch delta or omicron who has 3 vaccination is likely to have no serious illness that will lead to hospital. Marvellous!!!!

The only people I hear about who are offered a 4th vaccination at the  moment are known to be compromised in their immunity, or are still vulnerable for  other reasons (including ethnic origin which I had forgotten about even though it has been mentioned all the way along)

Please stay safe and careful but do find ways to enjoy life dear Ladies  :)

I ❤ JVT if nobody has guessed  ;D

Laws enacted during a State of Emergency have to be reviewed every 4-6 weeks throughout and once the emergency is over, they have to be revoked.

As an aside, if someone refuses treatment for TB however, there are Laws from way back which means that a patient can go to Prison until they begin regular medications.

Doing what is appropriate in the situation we find ourselves in remains important.

Kathleen, yes I tried a visor, hated them too!   Felt so conspicuous, and I think I have made it worse for myself by staying in for so long.  I feel my agorophobia coming back when I am out for an occasional walk.  I'm really struggling to be honest and if we have to wear masks for years to come, like the media have been reporting, everything feels pretty pointless.  I just wish they could be optional, to give some people at chance at life.

Which media?  I would suggest standing in a crowd and see how many people are looking at you.  I did this years ago when suffering with anxiety - no one was watching me, they were busy with toddlers, shopping troliies, bags, money ........ which helped me be less worried !  If you are keeping yourself safe, why worry about what others might be thinking?  Make this about you and not about others?  At my age  ::)

I was upset when my therapist asked why I thought that I was so important that others would want to look at me !  :-\

Yip CLKD, I've been asked that too.  I know it's right but it's putting it into practice.  Doing online therapy at the moment but not appearing to have much effect yet.  I can only keep trying.

I really don't like masks but follow the rules and wear one where required. I don't want them to remain the norm. I have to wear one at work and have a couple of colleagues who are rather obsessed with wearing them.  Today one was ranting about full medical masks not being available. I have never worn a medical one and don't feel the need to do so.

If masks remain necessary for a long time, I’m going to have to invest in some glasses with larger frames. I wear small lens rimless ones, but have struggled with wearing masks particularly in this colder weather as I can’t put the bottom part of them over the top of the masks to prevent misting up. At the moment I have the choice of not seeing through the mist or blurred vision. I shall go for some colourful fun frames! After all with a mask on it doesn’t matter if they suit me of not!

I don’t get on with material masks as I find I can’t breathe easily (already have breathing difficulties) but fared better with medical type masks. I hate shields even more as the band gives me a head ache after a short period of time. I wear masks where I am required to and for my own protection, but tend to avoid going where it’s necessary to wear them, eg shops.

Can you tell the government's based in London? Yet another policy that suits London where cases are dropping but is a really stupid idea for most of the rest of the country where rates are rising.

I agree!  Same as with HS2, 'use more public transport', 'walk more often' ...... all stems from them living in the Cities  >:( and/or those with company cars for which we pay!!

Around where I live it's been the highest rate of hospital admissions anywhere!  Interesting to see what we are advised - bet people will hear 'stop' rather than 'should we'  ::). Whose going to be last to ditch their mask, bet it's me  ;D

Boohoo, Aprilflower, I'm in Scotland.  Might consider moving south of the border though!

CLKD, If you like yours and feel comfortable wearing it for safety you still can, just that it's not to be mandatory in England.  Fancy a house swap?

You wouldn't want to swap with us, too much clutter and dust  ;D

We do have a camper-van though holidaylover  ;)
