Stopping HRT suddenly side effects
« on: December 07, 2021, 01:06:01 PM »

I stopped taking Everol Conti suddenly to see if I still needed it at 55.  The first 2 weeks were fine.  Over the last 3 weeks I have felt terrible - insomnia started again so I restarted the patches at the start of week 4 of stopping.  However I have been hit by a wave of anxiety, low mood worry etc which I had in a small way during the menopause and one of the reasons for taking hrt.  I feel like it has returned ten times more than before I started taking HRT.  Is this normal and how long will it last?

Whatever you do, taper off slowly if you are going to stop HRT.
I removed my patch a week ago,  as I was fed up of bleeding.
Result, I was hit with an awful rage by Sunday and real mood swings.

I have since started sandrena to try and get Oestrogen into me, without the bleeding ( I’m hoping)

Hopefully you will level out over time.

I had a full on , what felt like, nervous breakdown after stopping everol conti cold turkey. Please put the patch back on and talk to your dr about tapering off gradually. Some people cut the patch in half, then quaters.

I've used both methods.  At the end of the day I didn't find much difference to be honest. By the end of three months all symptoms were back. With the tapering the symptoms did return more gradually I suppose but if you are stopping merely to find out if you still need it then at least by cold turkey you know much faster than if you gradually taper off.

I found it took around six months from re-starting before I was back on an even keel again. I now growl at the GP if she suggests that at the age of 67 I should consider "tapering off"  ;D
