You've taken the first steps to improve things. Why are you fed up with yourself?

Hi Sheila,

Got to the point of my menopause journey where I have excruciating joint pain in my right thumb, haven't had a decent night's sleep in ages, am getting more irritable and intimacy is so painful that we don't even entertain the idea anymore. I deliberated about going on HRT as doctor didn't seem keen to prescribe it...he actually sent me a txt with a link to alternative methods of coping  ;D

Insomnia was one of my worst symptoms too, I'm not surprised you feel awful. It's impossible to feel well when you can't sleep. HRT sorted it out for me, hopefully it will for you too (it did take a little time though). Have you been given topical oestrogen for your VA? You really need it now, it will only get worse without it. It might be worth getting your thumb investigated separately as it may not be meno related. Is this the only joint that's painful?
Have a look at the 'advice for husbands' pinned post. The way you are - including the irritability - isn't your fault.

Welcome to the Wonderful World of ......... women who know  ;)

Joint pains can be aggravated by a drop in oestrogen levels.  It could be 'gout' or wear and tear.  Do you text a lot with the thumb?  Reptitive strain injury?

Get thyself some appropriate vaginal atrophy treatment pronto  :D.  Read the 'bladder issues' and 'vaginal atrophy' threads on the Forum; make notes.  You shouldn't require an examination by a GP - symptoms should be enough to encourage them to leave a prescription.  "yes" and "Slyc" products can help too - moisturisers.

Thank you for your replies ladies. Not been given any topical cream but will look into that thank you. I have pain in other joints but not as bad as my right thumb. It's not texting and it seems to have eased a little since putting on my first patch. I will check out the advice for husbands post...any info I can get will be gratefully received.

It's so good to be on here to read other women's menapause journeys...doesn't make you feel so isolated  :)

You're far from alone on here. Most of us are here because we've had or are having a difficult time and know how hard it is. There's always someone here to listen.  ::)
