Estrogel not working? Plus thyroiditis. Help and advice needed x
« on: November 30, 2021, 08:42:08 AM »

Hi
Just need some advice. I’ve been on 3 pumps of estrogel for approx 2 years and had mirena coil fitted a year ago as wasn’t tolerating utrogestan.
I feel like I’ve stopped absorbing my estrogel currently on 3 pumps.
It’s been amazing and I had great control of symptoms.
In other news I have an underactive thyroid and am in a thyroiditis flair so it’s difficult to know what’s what. I know one likely impacts on the other. But I’m definitely having the morning dreads and tingling but if flushing etc. I know this could mean I’m overactive thyroid wise but??
I’m wondering if a switch to another gel brand Eg sandrena might be worth a go? Is there really that much difference?
Thanks for help

Where are you in your meno journey? It isn't unusual to need more as your own supply packs up, I've had to increase twice. As this gel has worked for 2 years it's unlikely a change would be the answer. I don't know about the complications because of your thyroid though. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will be along, if they don't it might be worth putting thyroid in the title.

Hello Shoppingqueen.

I am sorry that you are having this trouble and it may well be that you need more oestrogen.

I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's about two years ago and I have never heard of a Thyroid flare. I was told that once I was settled on the correct dose of Levothyroxine there would no longer be a problem.

As Sheila has said perhaps more expert ladies will be along soon to advise you.

Take care.

K.

Hi Sheila99
Thank you for replying. I’m post meno as a very long time since any bleeds, even before Merena. I’m 53 and started with bad meno symptoms at 46 so been on various preps since then. But gel has been by far the best. I’m wondering if it is likely I need to go to 4 pumps. I could try half an extra pump for while. Think this is a good idea? I really don’t want to switch from the gel.
I’ve been having more headaches as well so maybe a sign low on estrogen.
Thanks Kathleen 🙏
Yes I’m Hashi and a flair is when my levels go over range then plunge to underactive. Likely the flu triggered it and a very bad chest infection. It’s my second and scan showed abnormal, and thyroiditis. I’m being referred to an Endo as this is impacting severely on my
Life. I’m so glad you are all controlled think many are, but some of us it’s just a never ending rollercoaster 🎢 xx

Personally I would try an increase and see, you can always reduce again if it doesn't help. Small amounts of oestrogen are produced in the adrenals and fat cells so even post meno it's possible your levels have decreased. But perhaps your thyroid is messing things up and maybe it's that that needs sorting, hope the endo can help. My meno symptoms returned for a month following my covid jab so it's quite possible it isn't the oestrogen dose at fault. You could try contacting wrensong if she doesn't see your post.

Thanks Sheila
It’s a good point you make there made her think as I’ve also had my booster (really didn’t want to feeling so rubbish but got in with it under docs advice) so this could be in mix.
I’ll message Wrensong thank you 🙏
Thanks for your kindness and I’m keeping everything crossed I’ll get the  darned thyroid sorted and might as well up the estrogen a half dose.
Nothing to lose as feel bloody awful 😂 xx
Hope all is good and settled with you now 👍
