Early bleed, should I complete the Utro phase or stop?
« on: August 26, 2021, 10:58:56 AM »

Hello ladies,
I will not have a chance to talk to my gynae on short notice so wanted to put the question here, in case someone would have had similar situation and guidance from doctor.

I'm on sequential regime (Estrogel & Utro 200mg), and currently still on the progesterone phase (was due taking last pill on Saturday). Unfortunately, I just got the bleed already today, probably my own 3.5 week cycle pushing through. So now I'm puzzled what to do: should I continue with Utro as per the original plan, or stop taking it now? Already dreading to stop I must say as it really helps with sleep and the past week has been very good in that regard. But if I continue taking despite the bleed, I"m worried if my already confused body will become even more confused. ::)
Appreciate your thoughts! Thanks, xxx

I don't know if it's right but I stop if I bleed early on the grounds that 1. I'm bleeding anyway so it isn't required and 2. As it's the withdrawal from prog that triggers the bleed I'm not sure if continuing with it will disrupt the bleed. But I get fatigue on it so am happy to have an excuse to stop early  ;)
Just a suggestion - you could discuss with your doc the possibility of taking 100mg 25 days per cycle. It can work well in late peri but not sure if you're there yet.

HI Sheila,
thanks for your reply! It's true, if the bleed is already ongoing, it may be that by continuing with progesterone it may get disrupted. Its actually strange why the bleed happened in the first place, somehow my own cycle and hormones must be overriding the HRT as otherwise there shouldn't be any progesterone withdrawal yet.
100mg daily has been discussed and I tried it, but my own cycle pushed through so therefore went back to the sequential regime, just that now it seems also that is not enough to keep things in order ::)

I would have thought I'm late peri as my FSH was very high already a year ago (above 70), but it seems now that perhaps that was premature wishful thinking as my own cycles are back. Really hoping to be moving to the actual menopause soon! (I wouldn't have believed saying that a few years ago  ::) )

I don't think it's unusual, my own hormones always override the hrt cycle. I'm lucky I can tell when I ovulate so I start utro a couple of days after that and it keeps the hrt cycle in step with my own.
