Can anyone tell me if they have used ovestin cream externally and it burned them initially, and how long it lasted for?  I have recently been prescribed ovestin cream by a gynaecologist for external use (pea sized blob every other day) which is burning me. I’ve been using it for a week now.   I use vagifem every 3 days.

I rang my GP and asked if, perhaps, estriol cream might be better, but she has said to persevere.  I’m wondering how long to persevere for, as the burning is almost as bad as the burning I’m using it for!

It can burn initially until you get used to it. Try using just a tiny bit mixed with an oil-based moisturiser that you know you can tolerate, and perhaps do every third night for a couple of weeks.  People often need to build up gradually. Some do get on better with Estriol Cream, but see if it gets easier over time. Difficult to give hard and fast advice as everyone is different.

Hi I did start a few months ago and it definitely made a difference as I was so itchy and sore on my labia. But don't remember it burning as I was burning already. I do know that I had to rub it in well for it to take effect. Does it ease your pain or discomfort at all or does it make it worse?  I used it everyday to begin with and now twice a week and occasionally vagisil.

Thanks Joaniepat.  I will try mixing it with some hydromol as that is the only thing I can use without irritation.

Thanks for your response Didi.    At present it doesn’t seem to be helping, but I will persevere.    I’ll try rubbing it in more mixed with some hydromol, as Joaniepat has suggested,and see if that helps ease the burning.  Hopefully I will get used to it and it will help.

I've never had problems with KY Jelly either and have used this separately 2 'ovestin'. 

Let us know how you get on.  The tissues can be very thin, itchy and liable to react if anything is applied initially.  A small amount for a few nights ........

KY jelly irritates me really badly. It took me a week to recover after they used it at the hospital!    Yes, I will experiment with using the ovestin and see how I get on.
