Help/guidance needed please
« on: July 05, 2021, 04:15:04 PM »

Hi,
I had a full hysterectomy (incl) ovaries at the end of January 2021. I haven’t experienced any menopausal symptoms that I’m aware of. I have an under active thyroid and the endocrinologist checked all my hormones and said that I’m post menopause and he would like me to go on hrt for a couple of years for osteoporosis. I mentioned to him that I haven’t been feeling well - I’ve been feeling exhausted a lot of the time and all my joints seriously ache. He said that it could be an after effect of the menopause and the hrt can help this. I don’t believe it’s the menopause. Has anyone else had severe aches and pains all day. I started hrt one week ago so have to wait for some effect. So far it’s given me a couple of night sweats but nothing else. There is a strong history of all sorts of cancers in my family so am reluctant with it but if it gets rid on aches and pains then it will be fantastic. Anyone else relate to the severe aches and pains?  I am 47 years old.
Thank you
Nicola.

Your doctor is right, you should be on hrt at least until your early 50s to protect your heart and bones. Osteoporosis isn't much fun either. Have a look at the Advice for Husbands pinned post, there are many symptoms caused by meno including aches and pains and fatigue. I had sore hips which I assumed were the joints wearing out but it went after I started hrt. Transdermal hrt is much safer than the older horse urine type that many of the scare stories are based on. Although there's a small increased risk with transdermal hrt it's less than if you drink, smoke or are overweight so you can reduce your personal risk by maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
