Chalazion
« on: July 02, 2021, 06:33:22 PM »

Evening ladies,
Has anyone ever had a chalazion and know how to get rid of one?
Similar to a stye but on the inside of eyelid so I cannot see it. My eyelid is so swollen and i have blurred vision in that eye.
Doctor said warm compresses 3/4 times a day and massage, which I am doing but it’s getting on my wick!!! 😂
Hoping someone had a tip or even better there is an eye person here! Lol

Hi Roobee, l have only  just seen your post so hope your Chalazion has subsided a bit. I have had one but got the same advice as you and was told it would eventually go away on it's own. I did also use eye drops ( just otc ones) and finally it disappeared after about 2 weeks. They are annoying though!

I've had them in the past. The only thing which helped me was a warm eye pad three or four times a week followed by massaging the eyelid, from the side closest to the nose down/across the eyelid towards the cheek bone.

Apparently the oil/goo which coats the eyes can solidify and block the tear ducts - causing the lump. My GP explained it as "think of trying to move a lump of butter".

Optician reckons after the thing has cleared it's best to do the hot pad treatment a couple of times a week as preventative maintenance to stop the lump forming again.

Thank you both of you. The swelling went down eventually but the lump is still there and this morning it looks a bit swollen again :( Very annoying!

Chalzion - it's good that the original swelling did go down. I hate to say this but the only way to keep on top of it is to keep on with hot pads and massaging the eye lids. Hopefully it will go again if you resume the hot eye pads (several times a day) and massage. I agree it is really annoying when they keep coming back.

I don’t understand why it won’t pop! I have been doing the compresses 4 times a day for several weeks now! Stubborn little f*****! Lol

Be careful what you wish for Roobee!  I put too high a temperature warm pad on one of mine once - it did pop. Made quite a mess of my eye lid, took ages to heal. Given I use RGP contact lenses it messed up my lens usage for a good while.

That sounds nasty! I’m still compressing mine, seems to do nothing! Fed up with it now as it makes me eye really tired

It wasn't delightful Roobee ::)
I know it's tedious and not over pleasant doing the pad/massage thing but I've found that NOT doing it leads to a bigger lump.
