How much utrogestan with 1 pump estrogel?
« on: June 07, 2021, 03:18:23 PM »

I'm sorry if this has been covered before ( I did look).  I am 3 years post menopausal and was happily taking only estrogel with regular scans to ensure my lining didn't thicken.  Then I had some bleeding.  One biopsy and ablation later all is well but the gynie wants me to start back on utrogestan.  The problem is how much and how often?  I would like to keep the utrogestan dose as low as possible and my research so far suggests 100mg every other day vaginally but I am really unsure.  Can anyone help?

Thanks.

Can't your gynaecologist help? It does seem that the recommendation is generally a one-size-fits-all of 100mg daily, but on as low a dose as 1 pump I'd have thought you'd be fine doing it every other day. I'm on Evorel 125, which I think is the equivalent of about 5 pumps, and I was prescribed 100mg for 14 days in the month. I changed to Provera because I found Utrogestan so awful, and the dosing with that is completely different but again, it's one standard dose for everyone. I confess that because I find progesterone so difficult to tolerate I have been experimenting to see how little I can get away with, and half the dose I've been prescribed gives me a good monthly bleed with no spotting. I'm not recommending this obviously, but I decided the small risk was worth it for my mental health.

Racjen, thanks for replying and good to see you are still on here and doing okay.  My gynie was very vague and seem to agree with all my suggestions for taking the utrogestan!

Cassie thanks for posting this. Can I ask how you arrived at this dosage?

I’m taking Utrogestan for 14 days in a month at 200mg. Should I expect a bleed and roughly when? It’s been my first month!

Hi Reboot

When I took it on a cyclical basis I never got a bleed because I was only on one pump of estrogel.  When I took prempak C I would bleed about 4 days after the last progesterone tablet.  Hope that helps.

I’ve just completed my first month of 1 pump of gel & 14 days of 200mg vaginally of Utrogestan (I only managed 12 days because I felt pretty ill on it I’m very sensitive to medication & thought I’d dodge side effects this way but no) I had the tiniest bleed ever, I mean hardly anything for less than half a day.

I took Utrogestan vaginally too but no side effects thankfully. I was just concerned about a bleed! Good luck going forward.

I have been on that protocol for many years it seems to work and I get a regular withdrawal bleed lasting at least 5 days.
