Vagifem pessary loading
« on: June 05, 2021, 03:58:05 PM »

Hi,
I was switched from the individual loaders to the repeat usage ones. I find the pessary doesn't seem to eject at all well. Any tips?
Thanks!

Sorry no help but that is what worries me if i am changed. I had a faulty box of Vagifem that didn't eject properly and my symptoms returned.

Hi, yes. I was getting on great with the single use loaders. The specialist gave me the repeat use ones to be more eco-aware, but I'm really unhappy with how they don't seem as efficient. I've tried various wordings in the search facility here, but can't find any answers. Interestingly, all three pharmacies here did not have this type in stock. I'd love to know if others have a preference or any similar experience. I worry too about the hygiene aspect of quite extended repeat use and introducing bacteria or irritation, without that intention, which would make the whole thing counter-productive? Obviously, the single use treatment is sealed and delivered in the way it is for good reason?

Hi Postmeno3, could you ask to have Vagifem specified on the prescription? You are not the only person to find the applicator provided with the generic versions inadequate, judging by some comments on the VA Facebook group!.

Is anyone else on Vagirux with a repeat use applicator for 24 uses instead of Vagifem? The applicator is meant to be cleaned in "mild, soapy water"! Erm.......

I use a think straw brush to clean inside my Ovestin applicator, works really well  :)

Minusminnie. Thanks for the article. Seemed a bit weird for them to say as these applicators look like Vagifem ones, there needn't be too much to investigate. It was a very small sample, sadly. There wasn't much detail about successful loading. Anyway, I still think it's odd that soapy water is recommended for a group with a specific issue relating to sensitivity to soaps, extreme in some cases. Are Ovestin applicators wider than Vagifems? I'm just a bit frustrated having just got started with Vagifem and doing well on it to have these unreliable Vagirux. Is it a cost-cutting thing more than anything?
Joaniepat: Would be interested to hear what the issues were with the Facebook group? Good to get these visible here?
Is anyone else on Vagirux and finding the same?
Thanks!

There is a generic version of Vagifem, as well as Vagirux, and I don't know if the
reusable applicators are the same with both, but problems in the FB group have included loading the applicator, discharging the tablet, and the tablet being loose in the applicator and falling onto the floor. I think sometimes problems have been down to lack of dexterity in the user. Others have been OK with it, so as usual it is those who get a dodgy applicator who tend to post! My prescription states Vagifem by name, so I've no experience of the others versions. There are forum members who have been prescribed Vagirux or the generic, so it would be good to hear from them one way or the other.
There shouldn't be a problem with using mild soap to clean if the applicator is rinsed thoroughly.

Yes, let's hope we hear from others. Thanks. It's the discharging of the tablet that's problematic for me. It sticks instead of ejects. I'll see if I can get my prescription changed though.

So, am guessing the Ovestin applicators might be easier to clean if wider, Minusminnie? Thanks. I understand the practical and financial, even ecological, implications, but if these applicators are causing a fair few folk problems, the needs and preferences of the individual could be balanced into the equation, too?

Awwww....thanks, Minusminnie.
I seem to be the only person on this product. I'm going to get onto the specialist tomorrow as my repeats she prescribed aren't manifesting at the surgery either. It all takes effort and uses energy I don't have much of. M.E  is hard enough! Thanks again.
