Hi all
Struggling at the mo with all the usual symptoms, night sweats, mood swings, brain fog, tired, forgetful and my all time favourite... the crying for absolutely no reason! The anxiety and stress are stressing me out by themselves!
My problem, if you can call it that, is that my periods are totally normal, regular as clockwork and not showing any signs of changing!
So my gp is reluctant to do anything other than blood tests.... or offer me anti depressants, which i don't want.
I'm 51 next week and wondering if anyone has any advice!
Many thanks

Hi VivM - welcome to the forum.

Your GP should really go by your symptoms i.e. hot flushes, brain fog, mood swings etc. and not by the fact that you are still having periods. I began HRT while still having fairly regular periods but it was a bit of a struggle to get the GP to agree. Anti depressants are not supposed to be offered as a first line treatment for menopause symptoms such as hot flushes. These are the NICE guidelines which you may like to discuss with your GP  ;D  https://www.nice.org.uk/guidance/ng23/chapter/Recommendations#managing-short-term-menopausal-symptoms. You need Chapter 14.

Hope this helps. Lots of help and support on here. Have you had blood tests, by the way, to rule anything else out such as thyroid problems or anaemia?

I was in the same boat as you. Periods are pretty regular BUT shorter and heavier plus many of the usual symptoms so my doctor (after an initial suggestion of having a fan in the bedroom 🙄) has prescribed some HRT. Might have to b a bit more assertive. Does your practice have more than one doctor, Perhaps call and ask if there is someone who might have some specialist knowledge about HRT?

Again! how many GPs simply don't get it. Obviously didn't watch Davina a few weeks ago ........

Ask for a referral to a Menopause Clinic?  In the meantime, mayB keep a mood/symptom/food diary to chart progress.  We know our bodies best ;-).
