Klinofem.
« on: May 20, 2021, 06:39:33 AM »

Hi Ladies,

Can I ask you a question ?
I have been trying different HRT S for a couple of years now but struggle very much when coming off the Utrogestin. (I was taking Oestrogel and 3 monthly Utrgestin 7 days)

I tried Kliovance as a gentle HRT (but didn't feel it was enough oestrogen) and then I started bleeding and have felt so exhausted, so asked could I have the Oestrogel again.

I saw my consultant again yesterday and he suggested I try Klinofem which is 2mg estradol a day ?

I had been having scanty periods when I started all of this, so was not post menopausal.

Does anyone have experience of Kliofem and were they happy on it ?

Thank you so much x

Hi Coll, I can sympathize with having to try a whole range of different HRT trying to find the one that works.  In my own quest (I am now on oestrogel pumps and continuous utrogestan, which seems to do the trick, though it sounds as if that's not ok for you) I've gone through just about every form and every brand going, including Kliofem.

My experience of Kliofem is really negative, unfortunately.  I ended up using it because the HRT I'd been on and which worked brilliantly, was discontinued some years ago, and I found after nine months on it that it seemed to be bringing on the very postmenopausal symptoms that the previous HRT had successfully controlled.  I discontinued (went cold turkey, which was great for two months but by five months had me climbing the walls so thus began my quest to find a good subsitute).

However I did try it again subsequently - for a couple of months this time, and found that it not only didn't help with the symptoms but seemed to make some of them worse.  Yet it's the same composition as the one that was discontinued.  Go figure.

The point of that is to say, that perhaps it could be an individual thing and maybe it just didn't suit me, but might suit someone else (well, it obviously does or they wouldn't be selling it anymore).  The other point is that 2mg is a good amount and roughly equals to two pumps of oestrogel (I know, because I asked on this forum and got a good answer  ;)

Could be worth a try anyway.

Hi Lamplighter,

Thank you so much for your reply.
It does seem to be trial and error.

Iv got the Oestrogel pump as well, so I think I'll give the Utrogestin one more try and if it kills me, I will start the klinofem.  Fingers crossed.

Really pleased to hear that it is the same as 2 pumps of oestrogel .

Hope you 're managing well too  :)

Oh may I ask one more question Lamplighter.

Had you finished your periods when you started this HRT ? Cause im not sure if you 're supposed to be postmenopausal when you take this HRT ?  I was having periods every so often..

Thank you.

Hi again Coll - just a note about Utrogestan - I found in the end that taking it at night alleviated what might have been side effects, particularly drowsiness and fatigue (in fact it now helps me sleep, which is great).  I don't use the pumps and the Utrogestan together but split them, pumps in the morning and the prog at night - I think it was the oestrogen at night that was giving me the worst side effects.

But it sounds as if you have other issues with the progesterone?

In answer to your question, yes I was five years post menopausal when I started HRT so was put on a continuous regime rather than a sequential one.  I assume that with the pumps you are on a sequential regime?  Just a thought that the progesterone might have fewer negative effects if  you were to take it continuously (but that's definitely just a passing thought, I've read on here that a lot of women have adverse reactions to progesterone and maybe taking it just causes ongoing problems.)

I suppose at the end of the day you'd need to weigh up if the benefits of being on HRT (in whatever combination) outweigh the negatives.  Nothing's ever nice and simple is it?

Good luck with the attempt at using the pumps again, hope it goes ok.

Thanks again Lampjighter.

I can not believe how much more energy I have with the Oestrogel.

I'll give the progesterone another go . ;)
