Anxiety/ sleep
« on: May 03, 2021, 09:31:45 AM »

Good morning,
For those of you who are currently on HRT, has it completely cured your hormonal anxiety?  ( if this was one of your symptoms)

I’ve been on the evorel 100 patch since September 2020 and I'm still experiencing anxiety and poor sleep. The anxiety is largely around driving ( which I’ve posted before about and isn’t getting any better).

I’m waiting for an appointment to chat to my specialist, to discuss absorption issues or a different type of HRT altogether but it won’t be for weeks yet.

I’ve tried the gel for months previously and hated it.

Maybe I need an even higher dose of oestrogen?

The whole journey is dragging me down to be honest.

Morning.  Could you have some driving lessons to get some confidence?

How does the anxiety manifest?  Any particular part of day?  Is it overwhelming?  Betablockas helped me from 2001, it helped to ease those early morning surges.  An emergency as necessary anti-anxiety tablet is to hand, not required for 2 years.  I also have anti-depressant medication.

MayB have a list 2 discuss with the Specialist, any idea how long that will take?

I could be waiting weeks, even though it’s an urgent referral,

The driving anxiety started two and a half years ago, the exact same time as menopause. Fast bendy roads, fear of veering into the middle of the road and crashing.

What anti anxiety medication did you take? I have 40mg  propranolol which I take before driving but with little effect.

It’s a been a long journey which isn’t over yet. Had some post Meno bleed tests; results haven’t come back yet. I can’t function on or off HRT it seems.

I was advised to take Propranolol every night to prevent anxiety surges in the early hours.  Worked for me.

Do U keep a mood/food/symptom diary?  Helps to chart progress.

I also started with being scared to go on the motorway after travelling up and down the m1 daily over the years. I’m still terrified and can’t travel on any major roads or even watch a TV program that has major roads and motorway scenes!  I’m having trouble getting the HRT into me (absorption problems) but know that once I’m getting enough the fear will go.  Perhaps you just need a bit more Estrogen.

Unfortunately I found that no matter how high my estrogen was it didn't get rid of the anxiety (and I'd never suffered from anxiety before menopause). Eventually I had to go on anti-depressant medication, and finally finding the right combination has helped enormously.
