New to Evorel - dreading conti phase
« on: April 26, 2021, 11:32:08 AM »

Hi,

I started on Evorel Sequi nearly two weeks ago.  I’m 52, peri and wanted hrt for poor sleep and low mood.  I think it’s already helping sleep and mood but I’m dreading the progesterone phase when I start the Conti patches in a couple of days. Does anyone have any tips or advice about what to look out for? I’ve got a busy time coming up at work. I remember getting really weepy last time I tried birth control containing norethisterone.

I’d love to know about others’ experiences.

If I don’t get along with this regime I plan to ask doc about Oestrogel with Utrogestan but am expecting to be refused. Can anyone recommend a good private option in Edinburgh in case I have to resort to that?

Yes, stop worrying. The vast majority of women are perfectly fine on it, the chances are you will be too. You get a skewed view on this site because generally it's the few who have problems who post. I was fine on evorel conti patches, I developed skin allergy to the glue so changed to utrogeston which gives me fatigue.

I’m on Evorel Sequi after changing from Femseven when they had all the production problems and I’m fine on it, no issues, better than I was on the femseven I think. I don’t really notice much difference between the phases. Will keep my fingers crossed fir you that you will feel ok too. x

I had PMT symptoms but I'd been experiencing the same each month for the past 40 years so it didn't make any difference.

Thanks for your replies, much appreciated and reassuring. Taz, did the PMT symptoms settle for you? My PMT hasn’t been too bad throughout my life. Does that mean I may be less prone to this side effect?
Oh can anyone tell me when to expect the bleed?

They settled quite a bit after the first three months but didn't go away entirely. I had always suffered from bad PMT but I don't know whether you are less likely to get these type of symptoms if you are not a "natural" PMT sufferer. Fingers crossed it's all ok for you.

My bleed was always on the third day after starting the new box of patches -  so three days after discontinuing the progesterone. My first two were rather heavy and more painful than usual but by the third one this had settled down to a much lighter bleed which lasted around four days.

I never suffered from PMT, was wet lucky, yet am highly intolerant to manufactured progesterone so I don't think the two are forcibly linked.

I do agree though that this site will attract those with issues. All my friends on her are absolutely fine with it.

Thanks Letmein. Can I ask what side effects you experienced? And have you managed to get along with utrogestan instead?
I had a number of different contraceptive pills when I was younger and one (loestrin) which suited me did contain norethisterone so hopefully it’ll be ok. The dose from a patch is lower and steadier than loestrin too I think?

Well I’m at the end of my second day of the conti phase. Haven’t noticed anything other than a slightly windy / achey stomach. I can live with that.
Was worried about low mood in particular.

I know it’s early days but so far so good.

Sleep improvement continues. What a relief. And my mood is generally brighter I think.
