Dry eyes?
« on: March 29, 2021, 12:36:07 PM »

Has anyone suffered from dry eyes when changing over to a different patch?  I changed to Femseven Conti from Evorel Conti which is supposed to be similar, but suddenly my eyes have become very dry and sore......

As oestrogen levels drop the body may become dry, inside and out: including eyes, deep in the ears, nostrils .......

Femseven contains levonorgestrel while Evorel contains norethisterone as a progestin. It's possible you respons differently to another progestin.

You may absorb it differently so you not be getting as much as you think. I think it's more likely to from oestrogen deficiency than the different progestin.

With the same amount of ethinylestradiol but a different progestin in birth control pills I experienced dry eyes amongst others. But it could be both. Another progestin and absorption.

I posted on this thread earlier today but the post has vanished  :o.  How odd!  Try again . . .

There's some thought that androgen deficiency is implicated in dry eye syndrome.   Both Norethisterone in Evorel Conti & Levonorgestrel in FemSeven are testosterone derived progestogens, but it may be that the androgenic effects you were getting from Evorel Conti were more pronounced than those you are getting from FemSeven.

If you're interested in looking further into the androgen deficiency issue as possible cause, maybe put dry eye into the search box as I think I've posted links on this before.  If I haven't, I can look them up & send you them if you want to PM me.

Hi there, I haven't taken time to read the other comments, so forgive me if I am repeating what someone else said.  I suffered very dry eyes and my Optician recommended I take Flaxseed Oil.  I take two capsules per day with food.  I have now no problems with my eyes unless I forget to take them.  I get them in Holland and Barrett and the one I use is 1000mg.  They also helped my dry nose as well!!  Hope you get sorted.  I know I used to have to go to bed early because my eyes were so sore and dry I couldn't keep them open.  Eye drops didn't do them any good at all.  Hope this helps.

I think you may be correct about the lack of Oestrogen as I’m also suffering with leg and joint pain as well which I’ve had before when I decided to have a break from Hrt.  I was using Femseven patches a previously before they were discontinued but had no problems with them back then.  I’ve bought some good eye drops but I’ll also try the Flaxseed oil for the dryness too.  Thank you.

Hi jasmine5 just a thought, on the off-chance: last summer I got what I thought was terrible dry eyes.  I tried various eye drops and nothing seemed to work for me.  As it happened we had a doctor staying with us during the Covid period.  He thought I had  hayfever eyes and suggested trying Beconase nasal spray and Sodium Cromoglicate 2% eye drops.  To my surprise, the symptoms eased.  I continued to the spray and eyedrops over the summer and was able to stop during the Winter.  I mention this because my eyes are once again becoming dry-feeling and irritated so I started the drops + spray again today.  This happened while I was using Evorel 75 patches so no connection in my case with change of HRT.

When did you have an eye test Mummytron?

I get a sudden, deep, sharp pain in the centre of my eye sometimes, like a hot needle going in  :o
