« on: March 20, 2021, 08:14:49 AM »

Hi, I’ve been suffering with painful hips especially when I exercise or walk
Yesterday I had a walk and my hips were so painful afterwards
Is this menopause does anyone else suffer with this after exercise or a long walk

Me! It started about 8 months ago. I do walk a lot though. I wondered if the aches and pains were lack of hormone related. I was hoping HRT might have helped

Hi Bella
Thankyou for your reply, I’ve had this pain for a long time , my hips ache and are so stiff , I’m not on HRT as yet I’m not  sure of it would help but I’m booking an appointment with a menopause Dr
Yesterday I had a steady three hour walk with my friend who is the same age as me , my hips are so painful today maybe I over did it , but it was great to be out in the sunshine & catch up
I do take a vit D daily but it hasn’t helped with my pain

I had painful hips, no problem with other joints. I assumed they were just wearing out but the pain has gone since being on hrt so presumably meno related. Mine didn't get much worse with exercise though.

Hi Sheila99 , hope that I haven’t got arthritis 😞 I’ve done a lot of research on HRT I’m hoping that it works for me
I love walking but the pain keeps me awake at night , I bought a wedge to align my spine but I find it uncomfortable

Yes! Looking back, it was actually one of my first perimenopause symptoms, but I didn’t know it at the time.
Mine are always worse at night, in bed, and I’ve ended up propping my legs up on a million cushions.
I’ve just started HRT so hoping it will ease off. I find staying active helps but there’s a fine line between keeping moving and overdoing it. I’ve yet to find that line  :-\

Hip pain is felt in the groin.  Deep.   Back pain can radiate across the area that most of us call 'hips': pelvic bones, lower back, down the sciatic nerve.

Good footwear is essential, even slippers  ;). As ostrogen levels drop muscles may become lax = aches and pains.  Take a pain relief B4 walking to ease any residual pain and make sure that footwear is appropriate to the terrain.

How is your sitting position?  Also do you need a new mattress ..........

Thankyou all for your replies menopause sucks 😞
I had a three hour walk yesterday which I’m not used to my hips ached afterwards especially last night when I was in bed
It’s odd because today I’ve had a tummy ache all day which I don’t suffer with .

I usually wear good supportive trainers I think my posture is ok , we recently bought a new Vispring bed which is a medium but tbh I prefer a softer mattress

Referred pain .......... as an Orthopaedic Secretary it took me a while to remember that hip pain originates from deep in the groin areas.  Sciatica 4 me is when I don't bend correctly: i.e. putting on the dog's lead, weeding in the borders, sitting incorrectly.

Yes me! I didn’t know it was hormone related until it went away when I started HRT. What a relief! I had other achy bits too that went away with HRT.
