Feeling yuck - evorel sequi patches
« on: March 03, 2021, 10:33:15 AM »

Hi, I'm 45 and taking evorel 50 patches (sequi). I was great on them initially but found over the last few months that I've been feeling so tired, fat, bloated, hairy, struggle sleeping and periods are going back to horrendous

I'm too scared to tell the Dr incase she takes me off them (I was a hundred times worse before) but not sure if it's my own peri symptoms worsening or if the brand has changed anything.

I was so stressed during lockdown trying to work from home and battle teaching my son who has ASD I quit my job.

I've now found another job within the NHS but have no energy at all.

I find I'm worse when I take the patches containing norethisterone, not sure if there are sequi patches out there that don't contain this?

Has anyone else had issues with evorel? X

You would need to try something different. I think (not certain) it's only evorel that uses this prog. I started on evorel sequi but had an allergic reaction after a few weeks so now on oestrogel and utrogeston. If your symptoms are returning you're probably producing less oestrogen yourself so need a higher dose.

Hi Sarahjayne.

It may be that you do need to try a different HRT but you say that you were ok initially and I would have thought that if the norethisterone was causing you problems it would have done so in the beginning. As sheila says Evorel is the only patch HRT to use this particular progesterone.

It's easy to blame everything on menopause but if you haven't had your bloods checked for a while then this may be a good place to start just to make sure that everything is ok and you haven't become anaemic for instance which can cause tiredness and if you are experiencing heavy periods then this might be the case. Do you know if you have fibroids as HRT can cause these to grow which can also cause heavy periods.

At your age HRT is considered to be necessary in order to protect your heart and your bones as the natural age for menopause is around 50/51. Your doctor shouldn't withdraw it so be prepared to state your case if this is suggested. Read up as much as you can about the benefits of HRT - especially under 50. Have a good look around this site and use the tabs at the top of the screen which will give you more information on the treatments available.

Let us know how you get on - lots of help and advice on here.

Following this because I've felt a little bit rubbish in the last 2 months, mild, but not the same benefit as usual from evorel.

I found the combined patch really put me on a high and I'd get energy and loads done, but this month it seemed to pull me down.  So I wonder if oestrogen is dropping, then the combined patch is less helpful than if oestrogen is already at a good level

I've just started using the patches and am on my 3rd week, so first patch containing progesterone. It may be a coincidence but yesterday I had a cracking headache and today it's upset my stomach. I've had bloating and (dare I say) wind on the oestrogen part too.

First month though so I need to see how it goes. I do prefer it to having to take a tablet every day, having been on Femoston 2/10 for a year. This is a bit of a gamble for me anyway, having reacted to the norethisterone in tablet form. I've not had the heart-racing bit yet thankfully! My doctor is awesome but I don't want to test his patience. I'm sure that your GP won't make you come off them Sarah Jayne. I am hoping to try the Femseven Sequi patches if they ever come back into stock! This was my doc's original suggestion but they've been out for so long we had to try other things. Fingers crossed for you x

Thabk you. Sorry for the late reply i thought id get notifications in my emails so thoight nkbkdyvhadcreplied.

Im thinking of trting either anothrr form of hrt patch (without nothisterone) or tablet form. I was having headaches in tbexearky days but put it down to teething problems. I get them on the 2nd patch.

Periods are back to horrendous again, need tobtry and get them tobstart 2 or 3 days later as theyre affecting my work. Im doing 11 hr shifts on my feet and booked an annual leave day knowing I'd be in agony. Swollen and tited from weeing 5 times in the night plus frequent weeing in tbe day. If i can push the worst part of my period on to the weekend it woukd be so much easier work wise.

Other than that is thete an option for blasting my ovaries to Mars? X

You could try a mirena for the progesterone part, most people are bleed free with it. Then you could use an oestrogen only patch or gel.
