Change of testosterone more side effects
« on: January 28, 2021, 10:23:30 AM »

Hi everyone, I was prescribed testosterone for low libido about 2 years ago now(I was already on Evorelle patches plus Mirena) and it definitely helped. My testosterone was almost zero before. I was totally uninterested in sex.  After another appointment with meno specialist my testosterone was changed from Testogel to Testim . She said this was because they didn’t generally use testogel I think this was due to it being in a pump and the dosage being for men, but I’d been managing to just get a pea sized amount. Anyway since starting Testim in November I’ve had worse side effects, hair worse on my face and neck plus I’m sure my hair is thinner at hairline. I’m waiting for another appointment but I’ve cut down to every other day now as so worried about this especially hair loss. All this is complicated by the fact that I have low sex hormone binding globulin had this since my 3Os so I have more free androgens in my body. I’ve always had to wax my upper lip and obviously as I’ve got older it’s got worse but I’m very hairy now on my neck and have to wax that too. Anyone else experienced this ? Do I need to increase the oestrogen to counter it ?

Sorry, I have no idea. If you explained it to your gp would she give a prescription for testogel until you can see the specialist? If you were OK on that it seems the sensible option.

Hi,

not had this issue but I found Louise Newsons video on prescribing very interesting and  she mentions Testosterone and prescribing etc - you may have to wade through it a bit ( I found it all very interesting) . I am sure she mentioned side effects etc.

Godd luck

All these T doses are for men, so you could stay on Testogel,  go back and say you’ve researched x

GP is right the Testogel pump pack ios not suitable because each pump measure is too great and also it is higher concentration. Tostran is even higher. T However if testim has been produced again ( I think I read a while back that it has) then it is also 1 % gel the same as the Testogel sachets . If you are using the same sized blob you will be applying actually a lower dose of Testim than from the Testogel pump pack.

Using testosterone along with the Mirena - a synthetic progestogen derived from testosterone - I'm not sure there is research on this but I recall reading something about levonorgestrel and its affinity for SHBG (but canlt remember exactly and no time to look it up right now...) so it's difficult to work out what's doing what. Ideally all three hormones would bio-identical in my view.

If you're only on 50 mcg patches then yes might be an idea to increase oestrogen after discussion with your doctor?
