Messed up by changing my hrt - advice please?
« on: February 22, 2021, 10:09:04 AM »

Hi, for well over a year I was settled on Estradot patch 100mg and Utrogestan 100mg daily vaginally, plus small blob of testogel.  This worked well for me mood wise (with just a bit of occasional irritability).
During the first lockdown I got sore VA and decided I no longer wanted to do the vaginal route of Utrogestan in case this was causing the issue so I switched to Evorel Conti patch!  Surprisingly I had no problems switching over to this and was fine for about 4 months, bar not sleeping all that well. With the consultant’s agreement I added in a 25gm Evorel oestrogen only patch to try.  This made me feel very irritable so I removed that and continued with just the Evorel Conti.  However I then continued to feel awul, really irritable and insomnia to the point I ripped the patch off.
I have now returned to the old Estradot/Utrogestan regime I had been on previously.  I just don’t seem to be able to re-settle on this and continue to feel really irritable and low.  I wondered it if was too much going straight back onto 100 patch, so cut some off it to just over half.
Could anyone advise if it’s likely to be the oestrogen or progesterone side of things causing this irritability and any suggestions what to do….it’s a horrible feeling! Thank you x

It may be that an addition or smaller amount a couple of times a week might be the way to go?  It's the Trial and Error that can be so tiring.

MayB put the product name/s into the search box to see what pops up?  Make notes ;-).

As for vaginal atrophy there are products to help as well as threads here: bladder issues and vaginal atrophy have lots of good advice.

Let us know how you get on?

Hi CherryC. Sorry you are feeling like this. It's easy to blame everything on our hormones though and could it be that the irritability is a response to the weird and very worrying times we are living in? A lot of people (me included) have found this lockdown very different to the first and, although things are hopefully beginning to change, it is still a long journey before we can be free to go where we want and meet who we want. I'm not sure of your circumstances of course but I've found that, these last couple of months, I've been much more irritable and I get upset over much smaller things than I normally would. I'm not saying that it isn't the HRT but there is a lot more going on at the moment?

How long have you been back on the Estradot?

Thank you both for your nice replies - Taz2 you are right in that this lockdown is much harder for everyone this time and will certainly not be helping matters.  I do feel the irritability is mainly hormonal as it sort of feels like my irritable emotions are coming from the low stomach/pelvic area - I know that sounds weird and it's difficult to describe.
This is my third week back on Estradot/Utorgestan so it is early days yet and I probably have to ride through this difficult patch and hope things settle down.

Having previously been on 100 Estradot patch, moved to the Evorel Conti (which is 50mg) and now back to the Estradot, can anyone advise if it would be best to start off with 50 Estradot and work back up again or go straight for the 100 and hopefully body will adapt back to that?

I would start low and work up - but I've not required HRT so mayB wait for a better response.
