No further treatment--thank goodness!
« on: February 09, 2021, 03:00:24 PM »

I can't remember or find where my earlier post about my Gynaecologist appointment 4 weeks ago but consultant phoned me today and there is no need for any treatment, but I do have thrush! I have been slightly itchy but never thought it would be that. The consultant said to use chemist for treatment or if that didn't work phone GP, I may need tablets, she said. Which Caneston product is the strongest/best? I'm not going near the GP Surgery if I can help it, Consultant was quite happy with me using Caneston.
I do have to go back in 4 months for a transvaginal scan but I've had that before and it wasn't too unpleasant. If anything untoward after that it will be a hysteroscopy but will cross that bridge if and/or when.

That's such a relief.  I found 'canastan' made me burn, I had to sit in a cool bath 4 hours.  But I didn't have thrush  ::)

MayB ring your Pharmacist to see what's available?  LIVE yoghurt ;-) - eaten and applied ........

Hi Padine, there is not much to choose between the Canesten products. Basically there are the internal treatments containing Clotrimazole. These come as solid pessary, soft gel pessary, or a dose of internal cream in an applicator. They are all single dose treatments and are usually sold with a small tube of cream to use externally. Then there is the single dose Fluconazole oral tablet, also usually packaged with a tube of Clotrimazole cream. I would just pick one and see if it works. If it doesn't and you need longer treatment you could have a telephone appointment with your GP.

Buy a fluconazole tablet online, last time I bought it it was 1/4 the price of caneston. A pessary or cream in my experience relieves the itching temporarily but doesn't get rid of the thrush.

LIVE yoghurt did I suggest  ;D

Candida (thrush) lives in the back passage and thrives on sugars.  Live yoghurt cleanses the whole digestive tract and when applied on a tampon into the vagina as far up as possible, it can be soothing if nowt else.  Do keep the 2 pots separate though  ;)

Definately the oral tablet, no mess or burning, especially if you've got VA too, sorts it in a couple of days, if not take a second one after a week depending how bad the thrush is. You can get home brands at Boots and they're usally cheaper than Caneston but the same ingredient.

I used to use a fluconazole tablet along with something that was supposed to balance pH - multigyn flora plus.  There are other things like balance active but I have not used them.
