All those names are confusing
« on: February 03, 2021, 03:37:12 PM »

I have a call with the GP later about possibly having HRT for my osteoporosis, vaginal atrophy, flushes & loss of libido.

Now I know that not all HRT is licensed for Osteoporosis, and I know I'd prefer a pill (seems so much easier). Presume as I have not had a hysterectomy that it will be a combined HRT.
What names will he throw at me? What dose should we be looking at? :)

A lot of people will say Oestrogel (oestrogen gel) and Utrogestan (progesterone tablet) is a very good place to start. You can vary the gel to get the dose right for you. Transdermal oestrogen is considered safer, I believe, than pills.

Hi Stockport

You need to rapidly educate yourself as to what you would like! All the HRT types are listed here for post-menopause ie the combination ones with oestrogen and progesterone together as tablet or patch:
https://www.menopausematters.co.uk/postmeno.php

The ones licensed for osteoporosis shuld have an asterisk beside them. Basically it is a question of minimum dose.

If you prefer to take them separately as Grheliz1 says then you need to look at the oestrogen types and the progestogen types here :
https://www.menopausematters.co.uk/treatafter.php
 and here:
https://www.menopausematters.co.uk/to_progestogens.php

Good luck with your call and don't be fobbed off! Let us know the outcome.

what a complete and utter waste of time!!

The GP said HRT after 50 is of no use for osteoporosis. He wants to find out more and call me back on Friday. If I don't get any joy, do |I just ask to be referred to a menopause specialist?

He also said I could take bisphosphonates (for osteoporosis for a straight 10 years - I had to correct him and say it's only 5years at a time)

I'm off to get as much info together so I can point him in the right direction.

Did you stress you needed the HRT for other symptoms such as hot flushes? This is the way to go I reckon.

Good news, the GP called me back today to say I can try Evorel Conti. He said I would still need to Vagifem for VA. I always like to check with the people who know best, is that correct? :)

It's best to keep up the Vagifem I should think, as it targets that particular area. A lot of people seem to need both.

Evorel Conti with Vagifem sounds about right.
I use Evorel Conti with Estriol cream. If I forget to use the estriol twice a week I soon know about it.
