Hi I am 59 and for the last 2 years have been on oestrogel (2 pumps) and progesterone tablet.  I recently had a 5 day heavy painful bleed so was referred for immediate scan.  I had this on Dec 23rd and was told I have a polyp and my uterus lining is more than twice as thick as it should be.  They attempted and failed a biopsy so am now having a hysteroscopy on 11th jan.  I have been told that the thickening is more than likely to be caused by HRT and I am now freaking out at the prospect of having to come off it.  Has anybody else had this experience?

How thick was it? It isn't unusual for it to be thicker if you're on hrt as on your own you'd be producing very little oestrogen. Did the bleed feel like a period?

Hi Yes the bleed definitely like a period accompanied with cramps.  It is 12mm thick.

  They insist on a hysteroscopy if the lining is 5  mm or more. I had to have one in May and mine was only 5.5 mm. My bleeding was caused by starting Evorel Conti patches and nothing else was found.

Hi I’m 57 and I had the same thing. Bleeding like a normal period. Had scan which said lining was 9mm. Had hysteroscopy which came back fine. No bleeding since. Still using 4 pumps of Oestrogel. X

Thanks Dotty - its very alarming when they mention biopsy and cancer.  Think I need to see what the hysteroscopy comes back as and then go forward from there - possibly see a menopause specialist.
