Once people have introduced themselves I forget
. I can remember their little boy's name 'cos it is the same as a Teddy that I had years ago.

Don't worry about it CLKD. I remember years ago we'd just moved into our new build house. No one knew anybody so I sent Christmas cards to all our new neighbours. I got the husband's name wrong on one card. The next time I saw them we had a laugh about him accusing her (joking obviously) of having another husband

I am worried because they have terminal illness in the home and the last thing they need is me not knowing their names

Please stop worrying. Just because someone is dealing with a terminal diagnosis doesn't mean they can't see the funny side of things.
They're probably thinking "that batty woman down the road.........."

Tescos & other places have little bunches of daffodils that can open in a vase at home at the moment.
Might brighten her day should you give them and for £2 or so stop you worrying.

I've outdone myself today.
Sitting at the kitchen table at lunchtime with my left hand wrapped round a coffee cup on table mat where my plate had just been. Having a chat with hubby and I look down at the coaster where my cup usually sits. Cue panic as I couldn't find my coffee and thought it had been abducted by aliens 👾
Talk about left hand not knowing what the right is doing
