Baggy Eyes
« on: September 28, 2020, 09:28:51 AM »

I know this might sound a bit weird, but my menopause journey was fairly quick (due to previous ovary operation), and although HRT symptoms have almost settled down, I appear to have developed ‘wrinkles/bags’ under my eyes which were never there before!

I know I’m not a spring chicken anymore and it’s probably due to the drop in estrogen, but has anyone else had this problem?

And can you suggest a really good eye cream ???

My sleep has been a bit random because I’m experimenting between 0.25g and 0.50g, but this is really starting to get annoying   :(

That’s very interesting because I get loose bags under my eyes when my estrogen is too low.
Upping my patch or gel gets rid of them within days.

Thanks for your replies ladies  :)

I tried Evorel 0.50 and even though I slept really well and my skin looked great, I couldn’t cope with the strange dreams and I couldn’t concentrate in work because my head felt so foggy!  :o

So I have decided to stick with 0.25 for now and see what happens.

Last night I took a paracetamol and an ibroprofen for a backache and I have to say it’s the best night sleep I had in ages !!!

I have ordered an Elemis eye cream, I know it’s a bit pricey but I’m desperate to try anything! And the reviews are quite good

I will let you know how I get on!

This is really interesting because I've noticed this in the past week.  I did say on this forum once before that I noticed crow's feet suddenly appear after I was using vagifem and stopped.  I know it goes against the theory of that only being local, but I've been having some weird effects suggesting for me it might be getting into my system more (migraines, sensitivity to sound, very deep sleep, etc).

But in the past week it's just a 'bags under the eyes' look that I don't usually notice.  I'm having quite a lot of 'low oestrogen' problems this week.  I'm on Evorel Sequi and not sure it's helping this month, at least as much as it had been.  Do people get higher dose patches as they go along?

Hope you find something that works for you Sleepy123

Hey, I’m new so hello !!  I’ve noticed this too - I do unfortunately have bags anyway but the last few days they look dreadful - my boobs are so sore too and I have a pain under the right one which generates round my back too - I’m hoping they’re all linked to low oestrogen as I suffer with health anxiety and trying desperately not to go down the scary road in my brain. Nice to be here anyway - think it’s going to be a huge help for me on this journey which I must be on as I’m 52!!  ;)

Hello Sjcrazy and welcome to the forum.

I see that you have found an old thread and you are looking for an update. I know that jaypo and KaraShannon are still active on the forum so perhaps they will be along to help you.

In the meantime I wanted to add that I developed bags under my eyes after a viral infection and because I still felt unwell I went to my doctor who diagnosed me  with Hashimotos Thyroiditis. I was prescribed Levothyroxine and I recovered and the bags disappeared.  If you have been ill lately it might be worth checking in with your doctor.

Take care.

I've had eye bags since my 40s, probably due to sinus problems. I've tried every cream and gadget under the sun to no avail, nothing except surgery would remove them however good skin care has probably stopped it getting too bad. I use Face Theory products.

Any advice on eye cream welcome. I've tried a few to no avail and they are not cheap a lot of them!   It seems eons ago when I looked in the mirror and I had no bags!  Wish I'd appreciated it more!

There’s an interesting and wide ranging video by Zoe here https://youtu.be/LJC0igfCywE?si=30ZVyuPSOtI6GS0x
Zoe are science backed and impartial. My takeaways were nutritious diet, water and creams containing vit c and retinol are the only things to scientifically help.
I use a lovely vit c eye serum by The Ordinary. The Boots No7 Damage Reversal, with spf 40 has helped my menopausal skin, especially the dark patches. It’s quite heavy though and needs time to absorb before putting make up on.  They also do a cream especially for menopausal skin, so I wonder if they do an eye cream too? I can’t help feeling it’s the same as their other creams, but with a menopause mark up  ;D

KaraShannon - I know this is a bit off topic, so I'll make a new post, but I'm really interested in your observation that vaginal oestrogen can have some systemic effects...
