Social media across all platforms for under 16s

What Australians think of the under-16 social media ban

People on the streets of Sydney reacted with mixed feelings to a new law which will ban children under 16 in Australia from using social media.  Some said it was a "great idea" while others suggested responsibility for children's social media use should rest with parents.

Good idea.  Parents don't have the control or knowledge these days to beep to speed with what their kids see!  This should be 'it takes a village to raise a child'.   Watching a programme last night was interesting in how quickly once logged in, porn sites etc. pop up!

That was my mutter whilst watching the programme last night.  Parents are NOT friends to their children  ;D.  DH didn't flinch.

I think it's a great idea too. The longer one can hold off giving smart phones and access to social media apps the better. Our school promotes the use of dumb Nokias instead of smart phones and even then not before y7. We will be waiting until y9 for any type of phone. They can communicate with their friends via email.

What age is Y7?  What's wrong with face2face discussion groups?  Also we didn't see school friends from Friday until Monday due to lack of transport and the distances between homes.

Interesting programme.  Will probably watch again .  Parents need to stop children being alone in their bedrooms for starters. Parents need to engage with other actives as well as having gadget down time for all. Some kids were on their mobiles for 18+ hours consequently not sleeping enough.

Some1 told me the other day that his son texts his girlfriend who is across the room!!!  Then the son complains that he is shy  :-\
