Wee problems starting to effect mental health!
« on: August 09, 2020, 03:02:03 PM »

Hi

I’m hoping you’ll be able to offer some advice / help please?

At the start of lockdown I started needed the toilet more frequently.  I ended up with two lots of Antibiotics  as my urine showed some protein in.  I also had a swab which showed I had Bacterial Vaginosis - another lot of antibiotics.

5 months on I’m still needing to urinate a lot - it’s uncomfortable in my vagina, pelvis, sometimes bladder and sometimes when I go to wee there is very little there and it’s difficult to start weeing.  There is also a terrible smell from my vagina!

The GP put me on Estriol and I’ve just finished the two week load but I still have symptoms.

Has anyone else experienced this and had  success with Oestrogen?

Please help - I’m so down about it all!  :'(

If you still have all the symptoms of a urine infection, then that is probably what you've got. For how long were the antibiotics given? You really need a 14 day course to treat a UTI, although they probably only gave you seven day's worth of each. Some GPs only give three days.I would go back to the GP about this.

The smell will be bacterial vaginosis again, for which you need a lactic acid preparation to rebalanced the pH of the vagina. I find Balance Activ BV Pessaries are good. You can use those for a few days, and then twice a week for maintenance.

I was going to suggest continuing with the loading dose of Ovestin for another week, but you would have to do that at a different time of day from the Balance Activ. Maybe do them 12 hours apart. You can still also apply some Ovestin to the labia at night if you are sore externally.

I don't think that 1 needs ABs if there is protein in the urine  :-\

Bacterial Vaginosis needs a proper course of ABs and do read the threads here on bladder issues and vaginal atrophy.
