Hi ladies, I had an ultrasound scan yesterday and was told my endometrium was 4.1.  I’m 65 and on low dose Femoston conti which I take about 3 times a week only. Does this reading sound about right to you ?

Hi Rosie - I think that as long as it's not more than 5mm then you are fine. That's what I was told at my last scan anyway.

Thanks Taz.  Had a bit of a hoo ha with gp today. They found a small fibroid and she said that as it’s estrogen fed, I should come off hrt.  I must admit I did get a bit stroppy because there is no way that’s going to happen. It’s taken me nearly 3 years to feel anywhere near back to normal. She’s writing to a gynae apparently to get an opinion on whether the fibroid needs to be removed so I can see a fight coming on 😏

I have recently had an issue with bleeding which resulted in a scan. I had a 5mm lining and they wanted to do a biopsy but I refused and they now have agreed to rescan in 3 months as the consultant said that 5mm would be extremely low risk (but the cut off point is 4mm in my HA). They also saw a fibroid that they were not concerned with. My gynae appointment is separate from my meno appt (thankfully) so no one has suggested I come off HRT. Someone posted an article on here the other day about taking HRT and fibroids which may be worth reading if you can find it. I too would shout my corner, 4.1mm doesn't sound an issue to me from what Ive read and fibroids seem to come and go. Good luck and well done for not being brow beaten.

Hello ladies.

In my case a fibroid was detected before the menopause but later resolved despite then adding  HRT.

My periods were always heavy and when I had two bleeds in one month my GP sent me for a scan. All was okay and they found a small fibroid but were not concerned about it. Years later when I wanted to try HRT I wondered if it would be an issue but it was not mentioned.  Fast forward about four years and an increase in Oestrogen resulted in a bleed and another scan plus hysteroscopy and the fibroid had disappeared.

This is obviously just one person's experience but I hope it helps.

When I had the hysteroscopy and asked the doctor why it had been necessary when my lining was only 5.5mm, she claimed that the lining needed to be below 2mm ! That really surprised me, so much that I couldn't get the words out to ask why!

Hi all,
I've also had results back today of trans vaginal ultra sound and came back with a verdict of 5mm, fibroids and beginnings of endometriosis. Fun times! The hosp are keen to do a hysteroscopy and biopsy but can't offer GA 'for a minor procedure' due to Covid. They recommend paracetamol and gas and air. They're not really selling it to me tbh!  Am waiting to discuss with my gynae and see whether he thinks its absolutely necessary and where HRT fits into all this. I've increased my progesterone over the last couple of months to try and reduce the heavy, painful bleeds and my last period was definitely lighter so maybe I can wait a few months like you, Shropshirelass, and be scanned again.  I will see if I can find the info you suggested on HRT and fibroids too. I love this site so much! So much help and support 😊 x

I'm going for a scan next week. I had very light bleeding 3 weeks ago and I'm wondering if it's a fibroid that's mimicking a period? I've never had them and I'm postmeno 2 years, not on any HRT due to family history of breast cancer.

Hi Rosie the information regarding taking HRT with fibroids is in my post re having to stop my HRT. I had my hysteroscopy yesterday and my gynaecologist assures me there is no reason to stop my HRT and I can go back on it as soon as my results are back , which she was confident will be ok x it’s posted in all things menopause and I’ve updated it today x
