We get this from our bird seed each year. Mine have only just flowered this year. Very pretty but I've never managed to get the lanterns to develop. Think the frost gets to them first and the stems just blacken and rot.

Also have had a few hemp plants over the years.  :)

That's the funny side of the story: we didn't even consider leaning over the burner in the garden and taking a Deep Sniff  ;D.  I was relating the story in our village shop and a man about our age, asked why we hadn't ....... we haven't grown any since.

Autumn colours lovely.  We were on the edge of a tornado yesterday  :o but don't seem 2 have sustained any damage, although the lid of my dustbin holding the sunflower hearts blew off.  Twice.  I need to check to see if there's a mouse hiding in the bags  :D

I sweep up what I can but in wet weather the sunflower hearts end up a soggy, smelly mess. I havent found a way round this apart from paving the area underneath which I don't want to do as it will prevent the trees from getting so much water. I clean the feeders each week. I've never put any cleanser on the ground as it's not good for insect life. It's a dilemma!

Tnx.  I move our feeders regularly and try to keep them clean, not easy as often the bottoms won't go back on!  We have a jet washer ..........  ;D takes toenails off really really well  :o

Apart from lots of worms when I left the slate under the feeders, there aren't any other insects.  I think a dilute slosh of Milton should do it!

The fall colours have been somewhat muted this year from warmer temps and less rainfall. But my neighbour's maple never disappoints. Right now it's a lovely mix of bright red and orange.  I think by the weekend the leaves will start to fall and the poor man will have to get out his rake once again.

A jay.  Hopping round.  There are a lot of new builds in the area, 1,000 - we have a lot of ladybirds. Inside.  Again  ::)

Maples/acers are superb for Autumn colour  :-*

Have spent an hour removing hairy fungus from under the bird feeders  :-\.  It will go into our compost to rot down.  Even moving the feeders hasn't stopped it forming.  OK on a dry warm day but on a wintery wet day it will be more difficult!

It's quite pretty.  Dark black hair with tiny yellow pin ****s on top.  But a hassle!

Due to various birds being affected by disease I am trying to keep feeders and underneath as clean as possible.  Mainly it's goldfinches and fat pigeons thus far.   ::)

Do look out for dead birds in the open, 'flu is racing across England.  Turkey farms have been affected and all poultry keepers must not let birds free range.

This morning I sorted through my feeders, some over 15 years old.  At least half into the recycling bin.  That means I need a visit to a garden centre  :whist:

;D. our robin was shouting at us whilst we were in the kitchen earlier  :D.  I hadn't put meal worms out so scurried off to do as I was bid.  Then he flew off  >:(  ::)

One pied wagtail has lost it's tail.  A few starlings are nagging the other birds.
