It was very pretty, it did the decent thing and perched on a hedge so we got quite close to it as we drove past. This was in a upland moor/woodland border type area.

Sounds ideal country for it then Limpy.

I had a sad journey today to HART Wildlife Hospital. A woman had found a baby robin trapped in her garden netting. Both parent birds were trying to free it but it's leg was badly broken in two places and the other was dislocated at the hip. It was a feisty little thing - very lively but there was no way it could repair and live an independent life. They had also just received a really handsome adult male blackbird which had done the same thing. Both legs broken. Such lovely bright eyes he had. Garden netting is lethal stuff.

On a more positive note I've rescued a lovely bumble bee from drowning in a bowl of water out in the garden. I just caught a glimpse of something moving on the water when I hung the washing out. I brought it in, put it on paper towel, and gave it a good dollop of runny honey. Took over an hour for it to restore itself to full buzzing health. It was wonderful to watch that long tongue and the way it thoroughly cleaned and dried all of it's furry parts before practising take off. I love rescuing bees. Such lovely faces.

It's difficult to know what to hang out Taz.  Our neighbour has a bluetit in his hand which killed itself by flying into their kitchen window.

I love bees.  I love watching how they clean their lips etc. after a feed.

Our birds do that sometimes too due to the trees being reflected in the dining room window on sunny days. It may sound  horrible but I always recycle our window casualties on the bird table for the magpies, jays and rook. Better than wasting them I reckon.

We've had birds fly into a large window/door upstairs and end up dead.
There's a balcony just outside it, so what we have done is to put very large mesh garden netting up across the balcony struts so the birds see something is there. Previously, they just saw the reflections of the clouds and flew into the glass, no bird fatalities there since.

That's good.  The larger birds seem to survive but the little ones  :-[ ………..

Sadly CLK it's not just the little birds.
The thing which prompted us to start putting the net up was a dead woodpecker, it had flown into the glass doors.

The netting in this case was to protect plants and vegetables. Like you put around a fruit cage?

Yep.  It can catch birds …….. we tried those silhouettes from RSPB but they didn't see those either  ::) … we often get ghosts on the kitchen window where birds have flown into the glass but don't often find bodies.

I've run out of live meal worms, forgot it was Bank Holiday weekend, so I am not popular with those outdoors  :D

Apparently 2-day is naked gardening day  ;D  :-X …… good job I didn't find out this evening ….  :whist:

It's a bit chilly for that here CLKD  :o

You probably don't find any bodies because the outline is caused by the powder on the feathers. Usually the bird has just sort of grazed the window and flown off rather than has flown full tilt at it and broken it's neck.

Some fab pictures here of powder-down outlines http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/14119607

Nobody naked outside up here...it's freezing. More like a February night except it's lighter.

My seals are back.....they have been gone for the winter but today for the first time they were up on the rocks.

Saw lots of Oyster Catchers and a good few cormorants.

No basking whales as yet but I live in hope as I saw a good few last year.

I think we saw some porpoise fins last week but can't be sure. It's maybe a bit early yet .

Told DH they weren't happy he said neither will he be if he has to keep clearing it out !  :-\

Guess they will get use to it when they hungry enough  ::)
