CLKD - This is the most bizarre post about wild birds and nature I have come across and really made me

So thanks for making me laugh!!!!!!

I'm still chuckling!

DH grew some a few years ago - they didn't taste of much at all  ::)

Glad to give you all a giggle, a bit of a meander  :-X

Did they not taste of carrots at all.

I was thinking of growing some fancy ones but if they don't taste of anything then I won't bother  :-\

Thanks CLKD - You've cheered me up no end.

Did the carrots have any plus points?

Sparrow Hawk has been back, and hasn't caught any small birds.
OH thinks it because it flew towards the kitchen window (new trick) and saw me.
Thanks pal   ::)

;D ……. we've been to a reservoir today but it was too cold to look at the birds for long.  Fillled up the nut feeders here 3 times already  :o

Do any carrots have plus points?  Actually I like them boiled lightly and mashed with black pepper and butter  ;)

The birds seem to have stopped coming to our feeders (in our small front garden) and now the nuts are all going mouldy. I don't know why they've lost interest. Even the long-tailed tits have stopped visiting. As for nut-hatches - haven't seen one at all this winter. Our neighbours have lots of feeders in their long back gardens so wondering if they just can't be bothered with ours as it hasn't been a cold winter so plenty of food still about and not so much energy needed to keep warm.

Throw away any mouldy nuts, birds will stop coming to the feeders if the food is 'off'.  Give the feeders a good clean once emptied.  So many more people are feeding and with it not being a cold winter birds don't' need as much as we give them!

I agree about the nuts. The danger is that birds still eat them and the mould carries a toxin. Mine have been busy all winter and have cost a fortune. What type of seed do you offer Hurdity?

I put some older nuts into the feeders this morning and the birds ain't keen  :-\ …….. maybe they can smell the toxins!

Frogs: purring: last night whilst I was in the bath which over-looks the ponds - Spring has sprung  ;)

Not in this country  ;D ………. my dream of course is to have a bungalow with swimming pool off the bedroom but no frogs is that!

Our ponds are outside below the bathroom  ;)

We have stopped putting out seed as it didn't get eaten - just peanuts, and fat balls, as well as crumbs and old bread! Yes must get rid of the mouldy nuts - have been a bit busy of late

Our birds have been fussy this year  ::) - only eating nuts they can grab from the feeders, fly off and eat; live meal worms, grab, fly off, eat; 2 fat balls since Dec. ::) ; more so this week, 5 greenfinches on the black sunflower seeds.

Mine are as greedy as ever unfortunately. The cost is getting prohibitive but I can't stand the thought of them waking up each morning, having a stretch and ambling down to the supermarket aka my feeders to find them empty. It's like us going to our favourite cafe for a much looked forward to breakfast only to find it closed and abandoned  ;D  They get through around 30kg of mixed seed and another 20kg of sunflower hearts a month plus the nyger seed and nuts. The nuts are never very popular actually apart from now and again when the woodpecker visits.
