That's good Limpy. In my garden this wouldn't work as I would have at least half a dozen cats all licking their lips in anticipation of low feeding birds!  ;D

Know what you mean, but there are no resident cats, just occasional feral mogs.

It does mean OH will be out earlyish (no not as early as you Taz!) putting the feeders back.   ::)

Primroses!! I saw them out today on the grassy southern (England) cliff slopes by the sea. With all the catkins it makes me feel like spring is round the corner - although we haven't had winter yet! Not many birds because too windy - a lovely buzzard close-up, rock pipits, and a dunlin scurrying about in the muddy waters edge.

Sparrow Hawk appears to have given up on our nut feeding birds, they are much more relaxed around the nuts now..

Yesterday, we were out for a bit of a drive and saw 4 red kites together! At home, we only saw 1 yesterday, still nice.

Is anyone else tracking the Cuckoos out in Africa? I'm following Derek http://www.bto.org/science/migration/tracking-studies/cuckoo-tracking/derek  The distances are quite amazing - 550 miles in two days in October.

Wow - what an incredible project and phenomenal flying!
We hardly ever hear cuckoos here these days (or should I say years as it's not yet the season!) - compared to when we first moved here.

"William III and his wife Mary were crowned joint monarchs of England, Scotland and Ireland in 1689. Their accession, known as the ‘Glorious Revolution', marked an important transition towards parliamentary rule as we know it today. William's ousting of his predecessor, the Catholic James II, ensured the primacy of the Protestant faith in Britain.

"His decisive victory over James at the Battle of the Boyne is celebrated annually in Northern Ireland on 12 July. In Europe, William was successful in his lifelong struggle to contain the military ambitions of Louis XIV, the Catholic king of France.

"In part to help finance his wars with Louis, William founded the Bank of England."
