I turned the mirror around to face the fence and was amused to see Mr Blackbird hopping around and over it in search of his "rival" He spent some time making sure it really had gone, cocking his head to one side and looking quite puzzled.

It could be a flock on the move CLKD. My "usual" flock of around thirty were really swelled the other day - much twittering and muttering as the incomers were quite aggressive. All was calm later that afternoon though.  I love them but absolutely hate the mess the sunflower hearts leave behind. They smell like dog poo.

I thought that the hearts didn't leave mess  ??? …….. I move our feeders weekly so that there isn't a build up and fortunately we have blackbirds who turn over leaves etc. and with the amount of rain  ::)

They tend to drop out of the feeder while the birds are feeding. If I put a tray on the feeders the doves and pigeons eat the lost really quickly. I use around 7kg a week.

Yesterday - OH looked out saw Red Kite in front garden, later on saw 2 of them sat alongside each other on the branch on an old ash tree. That was so nice.   :)

Today - Thought the nuts outside the kitchen window had been going down a bit more slowly. This afternoon saw a Sparrow Hawk do at least 10 trips (that we saw) by the nut baskets. It did catch something, judging by the feathers it looked like a Nuthatch, who are aggressive little birds but........   :'(

We do put food out for the birds, so shouldn't really mind if the feeding doesn't take the form envisaged. But it's not good    :(

OH now moved the position of the feeders.

There are so many of them around here that you tend to not notice them much anymore. Was the Red Kite after anything Limpy? Have you got a dead something or other lying around?  ;D

Not sure what the Red Kites were after, but they were sitting very close to each other!
We still notice them, usually only see one of them at a time.   ::)

Definitely - More buzzards than red kites. They don't seem to bother each other.
Red Kites quite recent though, last 5 years or so.
