Yes they finally made it - I was watching them wheeling over Ilfracombe Harbour last week together with the Sand Martins on the cliff tops.

I also had a male blackcap land on the fence this week. He looked totally exhausted and managed to hop into the apple tree where he rested for half an hour before feasting on the apple which I had luckily put out earlier. He soon recovered and carried on with his journey.

No house martins or swallows here yet.

They are late this year. My squirrels have gone....I had three pottering about and now none.

I miss them......anyone any idea why they have gone.

Could have been a mole eating the roots from underneath the plant?

Bees; butterflies; young bluetits  :-*

We have swallows now and I saw a Red Admiral butterfly.

Our bees have been flying - in between the torrential rain and HAIL  I ask you! Ground went white on Sat.

Saw our swallows here today - they may have arrived earlier but I wasn't here to see them. Fantastic birds on the continent. Ones I've never heard of let alone seen. Lots of alpine swifts wheeling about too. Shrikes and Ibises and friendly little house buntings everywhere. Amazing spring flowers too - again lots I've never seen, beautiful colours.

Thanks Taz

Found 3 early purple flower heads in the orchard!! They came into flower while we were away - all the other little plants I found in Feb are too young to flower yet but will be nurtured...
